Madam Secretary is adding two new characters to its final season. One who I’m very excited about!
Wentworth Miller
Wentworth Miller, who is best known for Prison Break and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow; will have a recurring role in Madam Secretary’s sixth season, according to TVLine. Miller will play a ruthless politician who is none too happy with Elizabeth McCord as president. It’s been previously reported that Madam Secretary will actually begin after a time jump. Instead of us seeing the campaign or election, we’ll just see McCord marking her first hundred days as president. Considering season six has fewer episodes than the previous seasons, I suppose it makes sense that the series would skip this, though it would have been cool seeing the campaign.
Miller’s character is the chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee and is named Senator Mark Hanson. He’s a major power broker who has a lot of influence on Capitol Hill.
Michael Patrick Thornton
The second casting is Michael Patrick Thornton from Private Practice as Captain Evan Moore. The chief of staff to the First Gentleman Henry McCord. Evan Moore is an Army veteran who had served three deployments in Iraq with the 2nd Battalion/7th Cavalry. Evan Moore encountered an IED during his fourth tour, which left him to a wheelchair.
The previous five seasons saw Elizabeth McCord as the Secretary of State for Keith Carradine’s President Conrad Dalton. According to TVLine, he will not be a series regular for season six, but I’m unsure if he will make an appearance at all. Like Carradine, Sara Ramirez, Sebastian Arcelus, Geoffrey Arend, Kathrine Herzer, and Evan Roe will not be series regulars either.
Had you wanted the series to show McCord’s campaign? And how excited are you for Miller and Thornton to be joining?
