Magnolia Home Entertainment has just released two of their most acclaimed features from this year on Blu-Ray, DVD, and Digital. Fans can now own the breakout June Squibb comedy Thelma which debuted at Sundance earlier this year before finding success at the box office this past summer. Also newly released to watch at home is the Guy Pearce historical drama The Convert. Get more details on both releases below.

The Convert - Official Trailer | Starring Guy Pearce | July 12

    The Convert

Synopsis: Thomas Munro, a newly arrived preacher in a colonial town in early 19th century New Zealand, finds himself at the center of a long standing battle between two Māori tribes. THE CONVERT is a historical epic exploring questions of faith, transformation, and the nature of violence. A visceral cinema-going experience, ambitious in scope and action, the film is also one of the most authentic and exciting depictions of pre-colonial Aotearoa New Zealand and Māori culture ever portrayed on screen.

    Thelma

Synopsis: The feature directorial debut of Josh Margolin, Thelma is a poignant action-comedy that gives veteran Oscar nominee June Squibb (Nebraska) her first leading role and features the final performance of trailblazing actor Richard Roundtree (Shaft). Squibb, who did most of her own stunts in the film, plays Thelma Post, a feisty 93-year-old grandmother who gets conned by a phone scammer pretending to be her grandson (Fred Hechinger, “The White Lotus”) and sets out on a treacherous quest across Los Angeles, accompanied by an aging friend and his motorized scooter, to reclaim what was taken from her.  The Official Selection of the 2024 Sundance Film Festival, 2024 Cleveland International Film Festival, 2024 Miami Film Festival, and the 2024 SF International Film Festival — as well as the 2024 Seattle International Film Festival —  Thelma also stars Parker Posey (Dazed and Confused), Clark Gregg (The Avengers), and Malcolm McDowell (A Clockwork Orange).
