Marvel Might Be Bringing ‘Deathlok’ Back Into The MCU Fold

With Marvel’s comprehensive plans to rule the Superhero Cinematic Universe (Although with DC’s run of high quality films they might have something to say about that), they have started to delve deep into the Marvel immense stockpile of characters that my not be universally known by everyone. Whether it be the Eternals, Shang-Chi or even discussions of Nova, the Marvel brain-trust is trying to broaden their horizons and expand their audience by re-introducing or re-inventing Marvel’s past. With that in mind, Deadline in a recent piece comparing the similarities between Deathstroke, Deadshot, Bloodshot and Deathlok, stated that there is a rumor that Marvel may be re-purposing the Deathlok character.

Deathlok made his first appearance in Astonishing Tales #25 (Aug. 1974). As created by Rich Buckler and Doug Moench he was originally Colonel Luther Manning, an American soldier from Detroit. After being fatally injured, he is reanimated in a post-apocalyptic future only to discover that what remains of his dead body has been turned into the experimental Deathlok cyborg by Simon Ryker. He verbally communicates with his symbiotic computer, to which he refers as the abbreviated “‘Puter” (usually in sarcastic tones). He eventually escapes from Ryker’s control and tries to recapture his “humanity.” As time passed and different creative teams took over the character, at least three subsequent Marvel characters have assumed the “Deathlok” identity. In all cases, the story line includes a dead human who has been reanimated with cybernetic technology: “Deathlok technology”(the pre-cursor to RoboCop perhaps?). The character has most recently appeared on television  with J. August Richards portraying him in the television series Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

These are just rumors at this point and should be filed as such but now with Disney+ creating Marvel content, the possibilities and opportunities are there for the taking, if they should decide to go that route. Would you be interested in seeing the Deathlok character make an appearance in either a film or the Disney+ Streaming option? Perhaps a Deathlok/Punisher story line?
