Marvel Promises to Showcase More LGBTQ+ Characters in Phase Four

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”23748″ img_size=”900×500″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]The Marvel world may have introduced LGBT characters in its Marvel Netflix arena and a small clip of an openly gay character in Avengers: Endgame, but the representation for the LGBT has been lacking in the MCU.

That is going to change, according to Marvel Studios Executive Vice President of Production Victoria Alonso. It was during a Reddit AMA (h/t ComicBook.com) that Alonso stated we will see more LGBTQ+ representation in Phase 4.

“I would feel honored to have a member of the LGBTQ+ group represented in our films and I hope the future shows that. I can tell you we are actively working on making our universe as diverse and inclusive as we can. Be patient with us. We have a lot coming in the future.”

Apparently, there were scenes in Black Panther and Thor: Ragnarok that touched upon Okoye and Valkyrie’s sexual fluidity, but they were cut out. Tessa Thompson herself has come out to say she considers her character to be bisexual and there was speculation that the woman who took a blade for her in Ragnarok was her lover, but nothing was confirmed. If we can see more openness that would be a step forward.

The Eternals is looking to bring in an openly gay character, which will be monumental. We just have to see now if Marvel stays true to their word going forward.
