In a case of one step forward, one step back, Deadline reports that Netflix is expected to renew Marvel series Luke Cage for a third season. This comes right after the announcement of the cancellation of Iron Fist after its two season run.
This would make Luke Cage the third of the Marvel/NetFlix series to make it to its third season along with Jessica Jones and Daredevil, whose third season will be premiering next week on the streaming network.
In preparation for the possibility that Luke Cage would get a third season, star Mike Colter had confirmed late last month that showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker was already hard at work to pen the new season. He expressed his hopes for the next season at the Baltimore Comic Con.
I think the plan for Season 3 is to explore Luke’s ability to govern and be fair. At the end [of Season Two], we talk about there being a new sheriff in town, a new king in Harlem. We’re going to see how he deals with this power, because we know absolute power can corrupt absolutely. And sometimes when you don’t have someone checking you, someone to put you in place, someone to tell you ‘you can’t do that,’ we sometimes get out of control. We see that everywhere.
