When Scooby Doo first aired way back in 1969, the voice actor for Shaggy was radio and TV personality Casey Kasem. He filled that role up until 2009 when he retired. His replacement, Matthew Lillard, was the man who had played the character in two live action Scooby films, 2002’s Scooby Doo and 2004’s Scooby Doo: Monsters Unleashed. Because of his involvement with the character, he might be forgiven if he would assume that he would at least get a call when Warner Bros. cast the voice talent for their upcoming Scooby Doo animated film. Apparently this wasn’t the case and Lillard was as surprised as anyone when the casting was announced and he learned about it on Twitter.
Well this sucks.
What a crappy way to find out…. thanks Hollywood. You never sense to amaze me. https://t.co/QDdlMAqlrZ— matthew lillard —Will block. 0-F’s-given (@MatthewLillard) March 2, 2019
Should Matthew Lillard been tabbed for the Shaggy role due to his past involvement with the character? Does Warner Bros. have the right to hire whom they choose, irregardless of past history or perhaps is there more to this story than has been revealed? Share your opinions with us at GVNation.
