‘Mortal Kombat’ Reboot Gets Official Filming Location

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”11345″ img_size=”750×400″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]If you are a 90’s baby like me this past month has been an exciting ride. We had Mortal Kombat 11 released in April, a Sonic the Hedgehog trailer (even if Sonic looked like something out of nightmares), and Detective Pikachu hitting theaters last week. Now we have news on the upcoming Mortal Kombat reboot. The project will be filmed and produced in Australia. According to reports the action movie will be the largest ever film production for South Australia.

Australian commercials director Simon McQuoid who is making his directorial debut with the project will direct the new Mortal Kombat film, which has been in development for a long time. Aquaman director James Wan will be producing. In terms of a timeline, pre-production is to begin later this month. The film will be shot in Adelaide, according to SA premier Steven Marshall. VFX studios in the region will handle post-production.

The Mortal Kombat movie is just the latest high-profile production to announce plans to film in Australia. Earlier this year, Marvel announced it would film an upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe movie in Sydney.

The first Mortal Kombat film that was released in 1995, was a relative success given the time period and the source material. The movie made more than $120 million worldwide, but its ‘97 sequel, Annihilation, was a disappointment by comparison with only $51 million. There was an internet video series called Mortal Kombat Legacy that ran from 2011-2013 (Definitely worth a look. Check out episode 1 below).
