Possible SPOILERS!
The Predator starts off with a rogue Predator trying to escape towards earth with an important package on board his ship. Throughout the film we follow a team consist of Olivia Munn, Boyd Hobrook (Quinn McKenna), Trevante Rhodes (Nabraska Williams), Keegan-Michael Key (Coyle), Thomas Jane (Baxel), Alfie Allen (Lynch), and Augusto Aguilera (Nettles). Their main purpose is to kill the predator out of revenge for Quinn McKenna’s old team at least that was Quinn purpose the other characters not to sure of.
The character were half way decent. I enjoyed the banter between most of the characters. A lot of the dialogue was terrible, but it had its moments of being funny. The acting felt like it was from the 80’s, which I think was on purpose, but for me it felt off and the actors were trying way to hard to be cheesy.
There were times that I just zoned out because the film was taking forever, but at the same time it was also fast pace; like it couldn’t find its timing. I don’t know if it was just me or the editing team couldn’t find the right balance. And because of this I couldn’t find a lot of scenes that was enjoyable.
Some of the important aspects of films to me are the cinematography and music and the action sequence and non of those thing were memorable to me. To put it bluntly the editing and action sequences felt like a transformers film, but not as bad.
If you had a choice to watch another Shane Black film I would suggest watching other films like: The Nice Guys, Iron Man 3, or even Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.
Many people will enjoy this only for the entertainment value, but the flaws structurally out way too much that I couldn’t enjoy even on a entertaining level. The big Predator was pretty cool. Oh! There was a line said by Trevante Rhodes, “get to the chopper” it was so out of place and it felt forced I almost left. Yes! I know it was a reference to 1987 Predator.
