True love has many faces — and sometimes claws and a tail — in the frightfully funny romance My Demon Lover! The happy-go-lucky but lonely Kaz (Scott Valentine, Family Ties) is looking for love when he meets Denny (Michele Little, Apollo 13), a kindhearted young woman with an uncanny ability to attract stray pets and down-and-out boyfriends. Denny is sure she’s met the man of her dreams when she sweeps Kaz off the streets and into her heart. But it’s anything but a match made in heaven when she discovers that Kaz is afflicted by a curse that turns him into a horny monster — literally — whenever he’s turned on! Will Denny be able to bring out the best, and not the beast, in her newfound paranormal paramour?

Video Quality
My Demon Lover comes to Blu-Ray with a digital AVC encoded 1080p transfer derived from a new 2K scan of the Interpositive which looks fantastic. Clarity and detail are in top form with some of the demon special effects appearing quite unique in close-up shots. We also love seeing the gritty streets of New York, the throwback clothing choices, and the production design that all renders with a surprising amount of texture and definition. Skin tones are consistent and natural across the ensemble.
Colors saturate the frame with vibrant hues popping off the screen in the background elements, light sources, and flashy outfits. Black levels rarely falter with crush and compression artifacts not popping up as an issue. Print damage has been eliminated with nothing big ever marring the image. The transfer maintains the natural film grain of the source without any unnatural manipulation to compromise the image. The grain helps bring out the richness of the image while avoiding a weak encode that could introduce some unwanted elements. Scream Factory has treated this one better than we ever expected.
Audio Quality
This Blu-Ray presents the film with a DTS-HD 2.0 Master Audio mono track that accomplishes everything it needs to do. One of the first elements that stands out is the fun score from composer David Newman which sets the stage for what you are about to watch. His tunes radiate out with great fidelity. The all-important dialogue comes through perfectly in harmony with all competing sounds. The environmental effects of the city such as the subway and chatter of patrons at the bar are delineated without breaking a sweat. This is not a track that is pushing the boundaries of sonic limitations, but it provides the appropriate texture while never showing any weakness. Scream Factory has taken good care of this one for fans. There are optional English SDH subtitles provided.

Final Thoughts
My Demon Lover is a pretty fun blend of romantic comedy and supernatural thriller. The premise is inherently pretty silly, but the chemistry between Scott Valentine and Michele Little makes it work – even if Kaz is nearly too obnoxious to be endearing at first. It truly is Little who anchors this movie with her charming insecurity, allowing you to believe she could potentially be won over by this hyperactive weirdo. The laughs are sparing but consistent enough to be pleasant. This is not the pinnacle of the decade, but it is a pretty fun discovery that could become a comfort watch. Scream Factory has delivered a Blu-Ray featuring a first-rate A/V presentation and some impressive new special features. If you are looking for something lighthearted with a hint of spookiness, give this a try. Recommended
