Nathan Fillion’s take on Guy Gardner is shifting from a colorful supporting role in Superman into a recurring presence that helps hold James Gunn’s DC Universe together.
After first appearing in the recent Superman film, the abrasive Green Lantern is already scheduled for multiple future projects. He is in the HBO series Lanterns, the animated series Mister Miracle, and the Superman sequel Man of Tomorrow, which is currently planned for 2027.
Fillion recently described how the character is evolving. He noted that Guy Gardner is turning into an ongoing part of the shared universe, functioning almost like a recognizable checkpoint that audiences can spot as they move from one story to another.
Building Connections Without Big Crossovers
Rather than depending only on major heroes to prove the worlds are linked, the DCU is using Gardner’s loud personality and distinctive look to create natural bridges between projects. A brief appearance from the bowl-cut Lantern can quietly remind viewers that these stories exist in the same reality, without turning every cameo into a massive team-up event.
Fillion has expressed clear enjoyment at the expanding opportunities. He said he feels fortunate to play interesting characters and then get invited into additional shows, adding that the experience has been a lot of fun.
Positive Words for Lanterns
The actor also spoke highly of the Lanterns series. He admitted the creative team was aiming for a difficult mix of tones and that he wasn’t initially sure how it would all come together. Once he saw the finished episodes, however, he felt the series successfully hit the mark and called the results very strong.
Lanterns began airing on HBO with its first episode on August 16, 2026.
More Guy Gardner Ahead
With confirmed appearances already set for Mister Miracle and Man of Tomorrow, Fillion’s version of the character is on track to become one of the more consistent through-lines in the early phase of the new DCU. His instantly recognizable style and energetic performance mean even shorter scenes can leave an impression.
As more projects roll out, audiences should expect to keep running into that famous bowl cut. What started as one member of the Superman ensemble is steadily turning into a useful and entertaining thread that helps stitch the larger universe together.
