The first was an enjoyable ride and the trailer to season two looks like it’s going to top its first. Following along Neil Gaiman’s American Gods novel, we see the main character Shadow Moon as he is roped into a war between the gods of the old world and the new, which origin stories explaining how deities from ancient Norse, Egyptian, Slavic, etc. mythology came to the United States. If you were hoping that at some point we’d explore Gaiman’s sequel novel, well; we’ll have wait a bit for that one.
“If we make it through 5 seasons and we get to finish the book, and then we’ve done the stories of Shadow in the UK, I can get to roll up my sleeves and do the story of Shadow’s return to the US. But that’s a long way down the line.” Gaiman spoke.
Six seasons of American Gods sounds fantastic to me and similar to George R.R. Martin, we’re simply waiting for Gaiman to finish his sequel. With technology having changed and who knows what we’ll see in about five years, we could have a lot to cover and new gods as the seasons roll out. The second season premiered its trailer at this year’s NYCC, which you can check out below. We’re expected to see the second season on STARZ sometime in 2019.
