There’s been a lot of bad news to come out of 2020, but this news sparks a lot of joy! According to Collider, Netflix’s Narcos: Mexico will return for a third season. Additionally, Wagner Moura – who played Pablo Escobar in two seasons of Narcos and a cameo in Narcos: Mexico season one – will be returning to direct a few episodes. This is very exciting news!

    Who Is Returning?

Additionally, Scoot McNairy will reprise his role as DEA Agent Walt Breslin (can you hear me screaming with joy?). José Maria Yazpik, Alberto Ammann, Alfonso Dosal, Mayra Hermosillo, Manuel Masalva, Alejandro Edda, Gorka Lasaosa, and Matt Letscher will also return. Diego Luna will not come back as Felix Gallardo. His story is finished and there had been reports of Luna expressing not wanting to go down that dark path again.

Season three of Narcos: Mexico will take place in the 90s and explore the globalization of the drug business. The season will follow the war that ignites after Felix’s empire falls apart. We will see these newly independent cartels struggle to survive. And we’ll see a new generation of Mexican kingpins blossom.

Moura will return to direct two episodes. Other directors for season three include Andi Baiz, Alejandra Márquez Abella, Luis Ortega and Amat Escalante. Eric Newman will no longer serve as the showrunner, rather Carlo Bernard (co-creator and longtime collaborator) will be taking over. Newman will continue to executive produce.

    Newman also expressed:

“I am grateful for my five years at the helm of Narcos and Narcos: Mexico and am immensely proud of what this spectacular team has achieved with these shows,” Newman said in a statement. “Carlo Bernard is the first person I ever spoke to about this project, over ten years ago, and I am extremely pleased to leave the steering of Season 3 of Narcos: Mexico in his very capable hands.”

There’s no official release date yet. But, now it’s time to rewatch all three seasons of Narcos and two seasons of Narcos: Mexico to prepare!
