Netflix isn’t easing into the fall.

The streaming service has unveiled its September 2026 lineup, and the month brings several major returning series, new originals, a live NFL game, documentaries, comedy specials and a sizable collection of licensed movies.

Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen kicks things into gear early with Season 2, while the back half of September brings Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story, another season of the animated Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 and Netflix’s new continuation of A Different World.

Movie fans have plenty to choose from as well. Netflix is adding everything from Alien and Jaws to Smile 2 and Ready or Not, while its original film slate includes a new Call My Agent! movie, Tyler Perry’s latest sequel and the Russell Crowe-led UNABOMBER.

Here are some of the biggest titles to watch before we get to the complete September 2026 schedule.

The Gentlemen Season 2 Arrives September 3

One of Netflix’s biggest recent crime series returns almost immediately in September.

The Gentlemen Season 2 arrives September 3, once again bringing Theo James’ Eddie Horniman and Kaya Scodelario’s Susie Glass back into Guy Ritchie’s sprawling criminal world.

Eddie isn’t merely trying to survive the marijuana empire operating beneath his family’s estate anymore. Netflix’s description for the new season has him looking to expand his growing operation, whether Bobby Glass approves or not, while Susie begins searching for new opportunities of her own.

Netflix appears confident audiences are going to want even more. The streamer confirmed in August that The Gentlemen has already been renewed for Season 3 before the second season even premieres.

That makes this less of a question about whether Eddie can escape the criminal underworld and more about just how far into it he’s willing to go.

Monster Takes On The Lizzie Borden Case

Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan’s controversial true-crime anthology returns September 17 with Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story.

The fourth installment focuses on one of the most famous murder cases in American history.

Lizzie Borden was accused of murdering her father and stepmother with an axe in Fall River, Massachusetts, in 1892. She was ultimately acquitted, but fascination with the case never disappeared, turning Borden into a figure whose name has remained embedded in American crime folklore for more than a century.

Ella Beatty takes on the central role of Borden in the Netflix series.

Previous seasons of Monster have focused on Jeffrey Dahmer, brothers Lyle and Erik Menendez and Ed Gein, so the Borden story marks another significant shift in period and subject for the anthology.

Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 Returns The Same Day

September 17 is going to be a particularly busy day for Netflix.

Alongside Monster, the streamer is releasing Season 2 of Stranger Things: Tales From ’85.

The animated spinoff returns to Hawkins for another adventure involving the younger versions of familiar characters.

This time Valentine’s Day is approaching when mysterious apparitions and strange creatures begin causing new problems around town.

The animated format allows Netflix to continue exploring the world of Hawkins without simply trying to replicate the live-action flagship series, making Tales From ’85 an increasingly important part of the larger Stranger Things universe.

A Different World Returns To Hillman College

Netflix is reviving one of television’s most beloved college sitcoms on September 24.

The new A Different World centers on Deborah Wayne, the youngest daughter of Dwayne Wayne and Whitley Gilbert, as she begins her freshman year at Hillman College.

Living up to two famous Hillman alumni isn’t going to be particularly easy.

Deborah enters college determined to create an identity outside the shadow of her parents while finding her place alongside a new generation of students.

The original A Different World became a landmark television series during its 1987-1993 run, combining comedy with stories involving race, relationships, education, politics and life at a historically Black college.

Netflix’s continuation gives the franchise an opportunity to explore what Hillman looks like for an entirely different generation.

Netflix Is Bringing The NFL To Australia

Netflix’s push into live sports takes another major step September 10.

The San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams will meet in Melbourne for the NFL’s first regular-season game in Australia.

The NFC West matchup streams live on Netflix at 5:35 p.m. PT/8:35 p.m. ET.

Netflix has steadily expanded beyond movies and television into live programming, and the NFL remains one of the biggest pieces of that strategy.

An international divisional game between two established franchises gives September something the rest of the monthly catalog can’t offer: an event viewers have to watch as it happens.

Wonka’s The Golden Ticket Opens The Factory September 23

Netflix is also turning Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory into a reality competition.

Wonka’s The Golden Ticket premieres September 23 and places 12 Golden Ticket winners, each accompanied by a partner, inside a recreation of Wonka’s fantastical factory.

Instead of simply touring the place, contestants face games, challenges and temptations designed to test everything from strategy to resilience.

Only one contestant will ultimately claim the grand prize.

It’s a strange combination of Roald Dahl mythology and modern reality television, which could make it one of September’s biggest wild cards.

UNABOMBER Arrives September 25

Russell Crowe and Jacob Tremblay lead one of Netflix’s biggest late-month films.

UNABOMBER is a drama inspired by the life of Ted Kaczynski, following his transformation from a gifted Harvard student into the domestic terrorist whose mail-bomb campaign led to one of the longest manhunts in FBI history.

The film arrives September 25.

Netflix has positioned the story around both Kaczynski’s early life and the investigation attempting to identify the person responsible for a bombing campaign that stretched across nearly two decades.

Call My Agent! Is Back As A Movie

Fans of Netflix’s acclaimed French comedy Call My Agent! finally get to return to ASK on September 10.

Call My Agent! The Movie takes place five years after the agency closed.

Andréa Martel is now preparing her directorial debut when her lead actor unexpectedly walks away shortly before filming begins.

With the production in trouble, Andréa reunites members of the old ASK team, bringing familiar personalities and old rivalries back together.

Camille Cottin, Laure Calamy, Thibault de Montalembert and Nicolas Maury return for the feature-length continuation.

Tyler Perry Asks Why Did I Get Married Again?

Nearly two decades after Why Did I Get Married?, Tyler Perry is bringing the group back together.

Why Did I Get Married Again? premieres September 9.

The new film reunites the couples as Marcus and Angela’s daughter prepares to get married, creating an opportunity for old friends to reconnect—and inevitably realize that many of the relationship problems they thought they’d left behind haven’t disappeared.

The sequel continues a franchise that began with the 2007 film before Why Did I Get Married Too? followed in 2010.

Netflix Is Loading Up On Horror Before Halloween

Anyone ready to start spooky season early will find quite a bit arriving in September.

The first day of the month brings Ridley Scott’s Alien and James Cameron’s Aliens, alongside Gothika, Greta, Ready or Not, The Rite, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Unfriended.

Several Resident Evil movies join the service across September 1 and September 2, including Afterlife, Extinction, Retribution, Damnation, Death Island and Vendetta.

Then Smile 2 arrives September 3.

Later in the month, House at the End of the Street and Mike Flanagan’s Oculus join Netflix on September 24.

It’s a strong head start for subscribers planning a horror marathon before October arrives.

Netflix isn’t just getting one Jaws movie.

The entire original series arrives September 1.

What Should You Watch First?

If you’re picking only one returning Netflix series, The Gentlemen Season 2 is probably September’s easiest recommendation. Netflix’s decision to order Season 3 before the new episodes even arrive suggests the company sees Guy Ritchie’s crime universe as one of its continuing franchises.

True-crime viewers will likely make Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story another major conversation starter, especially given how recognizable the Borden case remains more than 130 years later.

For nostalgia, A Different World may be the month’s most interesting experiment. Returning to Hillman through Dwayne and Whitley’s daughter gives Netflix a way to acknowledge the original series without simply recreating it with younger actors.
