Warning: SPOILERS AHEAD!
If you have finished the second season of Iron Fist, you are probably in the same position as I am; wondering what the heck happened! The ending for Iron Fist was extremely unexpected and just a complete knock-out. But, before the final five minutes of the show, we have a very unique plotline occurring in the last two episodes, centering around Colleen Wing. Here’s the spoiler, so if you haven’t seen the show and don’t want to know said spoiler, turn away now! This is your last warning!
First of all, how shocked were you to see Colleen now wielding the Iron Fist! It was already shocking to see Davos having two glowing red fists, but when Danny approached his lover about the possibility of bearing this responsibility, I was in utter shock. Of course, Colleen deserves it. She’s a strong-willed, excellent fighter, who knows how to center herself, and only wants to see her community turn around and not succumb to violence. But, this show is about Danny, isn’t it? I really felt at some point there were either preparing to write Finn Jones off or that the plan would go sideways and Colleen wouldn’t take on the burden. I was wrong. Dead wrong. And I’m so happy about it.
I’d love to take a moment to say how much I love the location of her ink; great choice. Also, the white glowing fist? Amazing. I cannot praise this decision enough. While it was unexpected and I am sure there are purists who are going to get all up in a tizzy, but I don’t care. Colleen Wing deserves to wield the Iron Fist. And we all saw at the end of the season that Colleen had naturally fallen into her new role, seeming rejuvenated, and with purpose. Also, channeling her powers through her sword? Holy crap, it could not have gotten better than that. We all saw Danny also achieving a new level of nirvana at the end, so this glowing fist duo is going to make one hell of a power couple when they’re reunited.
Not only was Colleen’s plotline an example of pure badassery, it was also meaningful to have Colleen so front and center throughout the show. To showcase a strong woman who can be gentle and nurturing, while also at times insecure; is needed on screen right now. It’s also important to have an Asian-American character so focused on to the point where you can argue that the show Iron Fist is not about Danny, but Colleen. Certainly, she is now the Iron Fist and I am sure that will be heavily focused on in the third season and hopefully, a Daughters of the Dragon spin-off. I remain hopeful, because Colleen and Misty Knight are the female duo that we deserve.
In a new featurette, we see Colleen’s strength through the actress behind her, Jessica Henwick. Without Henwick’s dedication to the character and the way she moved, her facial features, etc. we wouldn’t have the Colleen that we know and love. We do know that the actors trained for longer leading up to filming the second season than they had in the first season and it really shows. The fight sequences were excellent to watch, especially Colleen’s. That fight with the Crane Sisters, with the punk rock music playing in the background; is one of the most enjoyable combat scenes in the Netflix MCU.
If you haven’t finished the ten episodes yet, well; I warned you about spoilers! Let me know what you thought about this unforeseen twist![/vc_column_text][vc_video link=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=40tpr_ZokAk” el_width=”90″ align=”center”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
