A woman in a wheelchair and a woman in a wheelchair.

The story of Gypsy Rose Blanchard has been steeped in both the pop culture and true crime worlds. Even before the award-winning Hulu show The Act portrayed the real-life story of a woman poisoning her daughter for sympathy and control, her case was well-known to the public. You know when there’s a Law & Order: SVU episode made that takes inspiration from your case that there’s a buzz around your case. If you want to watch an in-depth documentary about Gypsy Rose and her mother Dee Dee Blanchard, then Mommy Dead and Dearest is the right one to see.

Here’s the short version of it all: for most of Gypsy Rose’s life, she was wheelchair-bound with her mother Dee Dee as her primary caregiver. Their house was destroyed due to Hurricane Katrina, and they were given a new one through Habitat for Humanity. All those around the Blanchards believed that Gypsy had multiple life-threatening diseases and were even led to believe that she was younger than she actually was. It then came to light that Gypsy Rose was a completely normal girl and was put on multiple different medications by Dee Dee to keep her sick. It’s suspected that Dee Dee had Munchausen Syndrome by proxy, which is mental health disorder where a caregiver will either purposely make the person they’re caring for sick (or simply lie about the sickness) in order to garner sympathy, material gifts, or just simply look to have someone rely on them.

In June 2015, Dee Dee was murdered by Gypsy Rose’s then boyfriend Nicholas Godejohn and Gypsy Rose was charged with conspiring with Godejohn and received a 10-year sentence after pleading guilty to second-degree murder. The public was pretty sympathetic towards Gypsy – here was a young woman who was [essentially] abused by her mother and kept sick by Dee Dee. To many, Dee Dee’s death was the only way for Gypsy to be free from the abuse. And, Gypsy claimed that the planning was all Godejohn and she didn’t want her mother dead.

Gypsy Rose was released from prison in December 2023 and quickly jumped into a social media career. People were already cheering her on and wanting her to finally live an independent life, so it’s easy to see why Gypsy would want to lean into her online notoriety, instead of hiding in the shadows. She’s even been featured on The Kardashians. Now, her online presence has been a slightly odd one and there are those who wonder if someone like Gypsy, even though she was a victim of her mother’s abuse; should have the online fame that she has. After all, she did still conspire to kill her mother.

Now, a new development has surfaced in this case. Over 100 videos have been released showing Gypsy Rose in some interesting situations. These videos have been released by a YouTube channel called Into the Weeds and the videos include jailhouse videos, interviews, and roleplaying scenarios that Gypsy would film to send to Nicholas Godejohn. Some of these roleplaying videos have been…interesting to say the least. Many include BDSM themes, supernatural scenarios, and showcase Gypsy in a much less “innocent” light than many believed her to be back in the day. Now, considering Gypsy had an abusive mother and was essentially confined to her home, it’s understandable someone would develop a wild imagination. However, it has many conspiracy channels wondering if Gypsy may have played more of a part in the death of her mother than previously believed.

Obviously, we are not making any claims – simply pointing out the online observations that have been displayed. Since Gypsy Rose’s release, she’s gotten married, had a child, and the online consensus surrounding her has sort of shifted. People have already changed their opinions on Gypsy Rose, so this new development is being dissected by internet sleuths and true crime fans alike.

What do you think of the new videos that have been released in connection to Gypsy Rose? Let us know!
