New Photo Shows Peter Parker Meeting Mysterio in Spider-Man: Far From Home

Whatever direction Avengers: Endgame goes in, Spider-Man: Far From Home is the next movie in the MCU and will star Tom Holland as Peter Parker across seas in Europe during a class trip. According to Jon Watts, the returning director for Far From Home; Parker is in need of a vacation:

“Peter’s ready for a vacation at the beginning of this movie, to say the least. This film is about the world telling him, ‘It’s time for you to step up and grow up, kid,’ and he’s saying, ‘But I still want to be a kid and go on vacation.’”

While in Europe, obviously things don’t go according to plan and Nick Fury shows up with a fresh problem that needs to be handled: the Elementals. On top of this, Fury not only brings him a stealthy all-black suit, but a new “ally”. Jake Gyllenhaal makes his superhero debut as Quentin Beck aka Mysterio, who is a powerful magician. Watts explains:

“If Tony Stark was sort of the mentor in the previous films, we thought it would be interesting to play Mysterio as almost like the cool uncle.”

Not only do Mysterio and Spider-Man develop a bond in the movie, the actors also have grown close off-screen. Holland explains:

“If you look at any interview I’ve ever done prior to this movie and someone asked me, ‘Who would you work with if you could work with any actor?’ I would’ve said Jake Gyllenhaal. And when I found out it was him, I was stoked, but also really nervous. But Jake absolutely was more than I ever could have expected.”

Watts then added, with a laugh:

“The only issue was sometimes they would crack each other up, and we could not get through takes occasionally. It was a problem!”

As far as the feel of the movie, Watts likens it to be similar to almost the Bourne franchise:

“We were doing a bunch of shots that looked like they were out of The Bourne Identity or some exciting European action-travel movie.”

Spider-Man: Far From Home hits theaters July 2nd. Below you can find an exclusive picture of Jake Gyllenhaal’s Mysterio and Tom Holland’s Spider-Man:
