New Promotional Pictures Released for Narcos: Mexico Season 2

Narcos Mexico revealed its narrator at the end of season one. Unlike the previous seasons of the Narcos’ shows, Scoot McNairy will be playing a made-up character. Walt Breslin is the first fictional character to lead a Narcos season, but it has been told that he represents the collective group of agents who went after the Guadalajara cartel after Kiki’s death. It has just now been revealed that Narcos Mexico will return for season two on February 13th.

The Hollywood Reporter offers new information and promotional pictures for the upcoming season. Showrunner Eric Newman explains:

“To understand the current level of drug violence in Mexico you have to understand how it all started, and truly grasp America’s integral role in it.”

McNairy’s Walt will lead the attack on Felix Gallardo in season two; who was responsible for Michael Pena’s character, based on the real-life DEA agent Kiki. Breslin is described as: “a hardened DEA agent whose methods aren’t always by the book.”

Newman also commented on Breslin’s introduction, saying it follows in line with the kind of agents who were spit out after fighting the way on drugs:

“It’s just the continuing revolving doors of, ‘Here comes the new guy and this time we’re going to get it right’. We’ve now seen that with agents Murphy (Boyd Holbrook) and Peña (Pedro Pascal) in seasons one and two, Peña alone in season three, Kiki Camarena in Narcos: Mexico, and now a new guy, who is basically going to come down and probably get nothing done and the cycle will continue.”

Diego Luna, who plays Felix Gallardo, also spoke to THR:

“Narcos has a chance to deliver another five seasons to try to get to today, because there is so much that happens after this season ends. This is the beginning of the fall for [political party] PRI, which is the party that was in power in Mexico for 70 years. People are rising and there is this feeling of people doing something they can control. A social awakening. That’s when the PRI starts to fall. So much happens.”

Narcos: Mexico Season Two will follow the “missteps, ill-conceived agendas, and corruption on both sides of the border” that have led to a failed fight on the war on drugs. Kiki’s death kicked off an explosive fight against the cartel, which will be explored in the show. Newman added:

“To understand the current level of drug violence in Mexico you have to understand how it all started, and truly grasp America’s integral role in it. The second season of Narcos: Mexico is a Pandora’s box, the contents of which we still struggle in vain, 30 years later, to try and contain.”
