New Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order Extended Look Shows Off More Than Just Hacking and Slashing

The 25-minute long gameplay demo shows that Jedi Fallen Order is more than just hacking, slashing and climbing.

Not so long as a month ago now, we were shown our first look at Respawn Entertainment’s upcoming Star Wars title, Jedi Fallen Order. Whilst I myself felt the gameplay looked great it unsurprisingly left some fans wanting more. Now, a new “extended cut” of the gameplay has been released showing off more story beats, character moments with Cal and much, much more.

Game Director Stig Asmussen had this to say in an open letter to the community:

” We spent months going back and forth discussing the best strategy to release this content, and ultimately decided for the first-look, it was critical to present a focused 15 minutes of raw, in-game footage highlighting lightsaber gameplay that speaks to the Jedi fantasy in an empowering way. But it should not be mistaken that our combat is overpowered or easy.  I promise there is considerable challenge and depth to be found within our combat system. The same can be said about our approach to level design, which is crafted in a non-linear way with heavy influences from games like Metroid, Castlevania, and the Souls series.  The game will feature several planets that the player can elect to travel to via starship.  On these worlds unique abilities and upgrades can be found that open up new paths across other planets, making retraversal an essential part of the gameplay experience.  This is a lot to describe in 15 minutes of gameplay. Getting hands on the full 25-minute experience is best to completely understand it.”

The influences of games like MetroidCastlevania, and the Souls series are particularly exciting to hear.

The extended gameplay demo shows off Cal hijacking an imperial AT-AT using it to fight back against the empire, before finally meeting up with rebel/gorilla fighter Saw Gerrera. Fans will recognize Saw from The Clone Wars and Rebels animated shows and obviously his live-action depiction in Rogue One.

We get a glimpse at Cal’s crew and some different dialogue options he has with them as well as his ship and the galaxy map. Turns out Cal is on the Wookie homeworld of Kashyyyk looking for Tarfful, who you probably won’t remember from Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith. We also quickly see Cal acquire a new ability for his droid companion at a workbench allowing him to traverse easier. After that, we jump back into the gameplay we’ve already seen before although it is played a little different.

This extended cut has already amassed over 1 million views in under 24 hours, so it’s fair to say the excitement for Jedi Fallen Order is still very much alive. What were your thoughts on the extended gameplay demo? let us know down below or over on Twitter.
