New Watchmen Teasers Show Masked Police In Search of Vigilantes

HBO’s upcoming Watchmen series recently got two teasers released today; ultimately giving us a taste of the theme and aura of the show that we can expect.

In the first teaser on Instagram, we see mannequins that are dressed up as cops with yellow faces with a caption: “Masks Save Lives”.

The next teaser is a yellow-faced mannequin-type cop who has pulled over to investigate a crime scene. The caption for this is: “Hiding in Plain Sight”.

From what we know, the series will be a sequel to the original story which will see the surviving members of the Watchmen in a very different place than we previously saw them. We could even see some hiding within the ranks of law enforcement. With vigilantism being heavily persecuted, it’s possible that we can see superheroes doing whatever they can to stay hidden.

Watchmen’s showrunner Damon Lindelof teased:

“This story will be set in the world its creators painstakingly built… It must ask new questions and explore the world through a fresh lens. Most importantly, it must be contemporary. The Old Testament was specific to the Eighties of Reagan and Thatcher and Gorbachev. Ours needs to resonate with the frequency of Trump and May and Putin and the horse that he rides around on, shirtless. And speaking of Horsemen, The End of the World is off the table…which means the heroes and villains – as if the two are distinguishable – are playing for different stakes entirely.”

Watchmen‘s cast includes Jeremy Irons, Jean Smart, Regina King, Don Johnson, Tim Blake Nelson, Louis Gossett Jr., Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Andrew Howard, Tom Mison, Frances Fisher, Jacob Ming-Trent, Sara Vickers, and Dylan Schombing and will premiere sometime in 2019.
