They were a comedy duo during the early Classical Hollywood era. The team was composed of Englishman Stan Laurel (1890–1965) and American Oliver Hardy (1892–1957). They became well known during the late 1920s through the mid-1940s for their slapstick comedy, with Laurel playing the thin, clumsy and childlike friend of the pompous heavyset bully Hardy. They were extremely popular during their prime but as time went on and other acts came on the scene, their popularity faded and they struggled to keep up with the times.
This new film starring John C. Reilly and Steve Coogan and produced by Sony Pictures Classics, focuses on a 1953 British Variety Hall tour the duo booked to try to revive their failing careers. This is while battling the mounting tensions between them as well as Hardy’s failing health. The latest trailer (shown above) shows a bit of these conflicts between the two but also their deep friendship.
Stan and Ollie is scheduled for a limited theatrical release in New York and Los Angeles on December 28th. It is unclear at this time when it will see wide release.
Are you interested in seeing this biopic about the legendary comedic duo? For those who are familiar with Stan and Ollie, how do you think O’Reilley and Coogan look as the iconic pair?[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
