Confession: I use Google Alerts to get well…alerts, about actors or movies/tv shows that I enjoy. One of those actors is Jon Bernthal. Yes, I’m a big fan, but, no this is not a fluff piece of me gushing about him. Instead, it’s a slight PSA announcement after I’ve been getting endless alerts and have even seen posts on social media surround the upcoming film First Man. Starring Ryan Gosling, this movie explores what lead up to the first man on the moon and no, Jon Bernthal is no longer in the project.
This article and many others, all still cite Jon Bernthal as being a part of the movie, playing real-life astronaut David Scott. The problem is, Bernthal is no longer attached to the project. While Bernthal was originally cast as David Scott, Bernthal had to drop out due to a family emergency. The thing is, this is almost nowhere on the internet. There’s no official articles about the switch, only that Bernthal is nowhere in the trailer and that Christopher Abbott is now listed as playing the astronaut. This is a little interesting because Abbott played across Bernthal in the indie film Sweet Virginia, which is a must-see.
Believe me, I’d love for Bernthal to be involved in First Man. But, he isn’t. So, let’s update our articles and promotions. There’s still plenty of upcoming movies and tv shows you can enjoy Bernthal on, including the upcoming Ford v. Ferrari film.
First Man comes out October 12, 2018 and stars Ryan Gosling, Jason Clarke, Claire Foy, Kyle Chandler, Corey Stoll, Ciaran Hinds, Christopher Abbott, Patrick Fugit, Lukas Haas, Shea Whigham, Brian d’Arcy, and Pablo Schreiber.
UPDATE: According to the latest Men’s Health Magazine interview (Dec. 20, 2018) with Jon Bernthal, the actor disclosed that his daughter falling into a coma for being the reason he needed to step away from First Man. Though his daughter is okay now, she was in said coma for two or three days, so I believe we can all understand why Bernthal needed to step away. First Man will be available on DVD January 22, 2019.
