A stack of 11 DVD cases and a Blu-ray case. The titles visible include "Tokijiro: Lone Yakuza," "A Man Called Tiger," "Death to Smoochy," and others. The cases are arranged upright against a teal background.

We at GVN aim to keep you informed of the newest and best in the world of physical media. Over on our YouTube Channel, you can find us talking about everything you need to know on No Streaming Required, our weekly guide to all the latest 4K UHD, Blu-Ray, and DVD releases.

For the week of August 13th, we have some incredible releases making their way to our shelves. Read on to get a brief overview of what you should have on your wishlist, then be sure to dive into the full rundown in the video below.

This week we dive into the eagerly anticipated Blu-Ray debut of the cult favorite Death To Smoochy. This subversive dark comedy stars Robin Williams as a disgraced host of a kid’s show who gets replaced by the naive titular character played by Edward Norton, who comes to learn the dark side of show business. The new Blu-Ray comes from a new 2K scan of the Interpositive and a nice array of new and archival special features including an audio commentary track from director and star Danny DeVito.

Elsewhere in the world of Asian cinema, we have two of our favorite boutique labels putting out some amazing titles. Over at Radiance Films, we have the Tai Kato Japanese drama Takijiro: Lone Yakuza on Blu-Ray courtesy of a new HD master provided by Toei. The film fuses blood-spurting action with melodrama to create a film you do not want to miss. The new release comes with a pair of featurettes spotlighting the director and star of the film. Eureka Entertainment continues their steady offering of Hong Kong gems with the Jimmy Wang Yu martial arts extravaganza A Man Called Tiger. This story of revenge features a 2K restoration of the rarely seen uncut Hong Kong theatrical release version of the film that adds over 30 minutes of material that completely overhauls the film. The truncated re-release version has also been newly restored to get both experiences in one package along with some great new special features including two commentary tracks.

Two performers are on stage, one in a purple dinosaur costume and the other in a colorful, sequined suit and hat, in front of a backdrop of yellow lights.

Kino Cult and Kino Lorber Studio Classics keep things rolling with a large slate of exciting titles including a quintet of creature features featuring ants, rats, spiders, frogs and more. Most of these are being re-released with new special features after being previously out of print. There are also some 4K UHD upgrades including the ’80s thriller No Way Out featuring Gene Hackman and Kevin Costner. The film is newly remastered from a 4K scan of the Original Camera Negative in Dolby Vision. Hackman returns in another 4K UHD upgrade with Prime Cut starring Lee Marvin and Sissy Spacek in her first role. The subversive crime film has also been remastered from a 4K scan of the Original Camera Negative in Dolby Vision.

This is only a taste of what you can discover on No Streaming Required this week, so be sure to check out the full video below.
