This week we explore exciting new releases and overlooked older gems from the Warner Archive. First up we have a newly remastered version of the classic musical exploration That’s Entertainment on Blu-Ray. Audiences can take a journey through decades of MGM musicals in honor of the film’s 50th anniversary with nearly 200 different sources meticulously restored for an ideal presentation. Those who want more from the Golden Age musical scene will delight in the classic Technicolor spectacle Sweethearts starring Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy. The film has been restored from the best surviving preservation elements with supplements including featurettes, a radio broadcast, and restored cartoons.
Going to a more modern release, we have the Blu-Ray upgrade of the Diane Lane and John Cusack romantic comedy Must Love Dogs. The film arrives with some deleted scenes, a gag reel, and more. We also bring back a pair of modern television movies fit for the holiday season; get a double dose of a music icon in Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colors and Dolly Parton’s Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love. Both of these heartfelt films bring beloved songs to the screen, and each release includes featurettes, deleted scenes, and more.
Western fans have a lot to celebrate as we get the long-awaited A Man Called Shenandoah: The Complete Series with all 34 episodes newly restored in 4K from the Original Camera Negatives. The label has also done amazing work with Looney Tunes Collector’s Choice: Volumes 1-4 which brings together all of the existing entries in this acclaimed line into one budget and shelf-friendly package.
There are also some exciting older releases we are bringing back into the spotlight for a second chance at life. This month we are focusing on musicals including the Lucille Ball adaptation of Mame, a pair of Howard Keel features with Kismet and Kiss Me Kate, the lively Debbie Reynolds historical tale The Unsinkable Molly Brown, the Doris Day and James Cagney biopic Love Me or Leave Me, and more great titles not to be missed.
