For the week of December 31st, we have some incredible releases making their way to our shelves. Read on to get a brief overview of what you should have on your wishlist, then be sure to dive into the full rundown in the video below.
This week we explore exciting new releases and overlooked older gems from the Warner Archive. First up we have one of the biggest developments for the label in years as it releases its first official 4K UHD Blu-Ray under the Warner Archive banner. The classic John Wayne and John Ford collaboration The Searchers gets the honor with a new 4K restoration in collaboration with The Film Foundation sourced from the original VistaVision camera negative. The release comes with Dolby Vision and a Fidelity In Motion encode along with an array of supplements including a commentary track, featurettes and more.
Fans of doomed romances will want to pay attention to some of the new releases on deck. Ann Sheridan lights up the screen as the titular Nora Prentiss, the type of woman a man will ruin his life to be with. The new Blu-Ray release comes from a 4K restoration of the Original Camera Negative along with additional short films. There is also the Lina Wertmuller relationship drama Night Full Of Rain starring Candice Bergen and Giancarlo Giannini as a couple whose passions manifest in positive and negative ways. Fans of history will want to check out the Blu-Ray upgrade of the Anthony Mann thriller The Tall Target starring Dick Powell. See if Abraham Lincoln will make it to his inauguration in the face of an assassination plot newly restored from a 4K restoration of preservation elements. The Blu-Ray also comes with a radio play and a couple of cartoons. Take a leap forward in history as Cary Grant attempts to dodge the draft in Mr. Lucky to charming results opposite Laraine Day. The new Blu-Ray comes from a 4K restoration of the Original Camera Negative along with a pair of radio adaptations.
There are also some exciting older releases we are bringing back into the spotlight for a second chance at life. This month we are focusing on numerous stars and genres that are sure to enrich any collection. We have a pair of Henry Fonda features with the western buddy comedy The Rounders and the family melodrama Spencer’s Mountain, two features from James Garner with the WWII brainwashing drama 36 Hours and the romantic comedy The Wheeler Dealers, the lively Debbie Reynolds musical Hit The Deck, and more great titles not to be missed.
