A collection of DVD and Blu-ray cases stacked against a teal background, featuring various movies and TV series.

We at GVN aim to keep you informed of the newest and best in the world of physical media. Over on our YouTube Channel, you can find us talking about everything you need to know on No Streaming Required, our weekly guide to all the latest 4K UHD, Blu-Ray, and DVD releases.

For the week of February 11th, we have some incredible releases making their way to our shelves. Read on to get a brief overview of what you should have on your wishlist, then be sure to dive into the full rundown in the video below.

This week we spotlight a long-awaited Blu-Ray upgrade as House: The Complete Series with the great Hugh Laurie finally gets a release from Universal. While we are slightly disappointed the iconic Massive Attack theme song was replaced for the first five seasons, we are still glad to own all 177 episodes in HD with the archival supplements transported over.

This is not the only television release as the Apple TV+ original series Truth Be Told: The Complete Series arrives on Blu-Ray courtesy of Fifth Season. This crime drama starring Octavia Spencer lasted three seasons and 28 episodes with the likes of Aaron Paul, Kate Hudson, and Gabrielle Union accompanying her. We count it as a win anytime a streaming exclusive gets a physical media release. We also have the reboot of Quantum Leap: The Complete Series hitting Blu-Ray with all 31 episodes. Neither of these releases includes special features.

It is a huge week for Arrow Video as they pull out the big guns to start the year. One of the most exciting releases of the year is the 4K UHD Blu-Ray debut of Cruising starring Al Pacino which finds the William Friedkin film debuting in its original form from a 4K restoration in Dolby Vision with an avalanche of new and archival special features. The proto-slasher Alice, Sweet Alice debuts on 4K UHD from a 4K restoration in Dolby Vision with the previously released supplements. We also have a Japanese double bill with A Certain Killer and A Killer’s Keys on Blu-Ray courtesy of HD masters from Kadokawa. The release comes with new commentary tracks, video essays, and more.

The good folks at Fun City Editions have once again proven why they are one of the best in the game with a pair of nearly forgotten gems hitting physical media. The label digs up one for Sam Elliott fans with the release of Lifeguard from a 4K restoration of the Original Camera Negative and a new commentary track. We also have the poignant coming-of-age tale Racing With The Moon featuring Sean Penn, Elizabeth McGovern, and Nicolas Cage. The release comes from a 4K restoration of the Original Camera Negative, a pair of commentary tracks, and archival special features.

Radiance Films offers up a thrilling bank heist drama with The Cat derived from a new Blu-Ray transfer overseen by director Dominik Graf. Extras include an hour-long interview with the filmmaker, select scene commentary and more. They also have the Kinji Fukasaku gangster tale Hokuriku Proxy War on Blu-Ray from a new 4K master with new supplements. This is not the only Fukasaku joint on the docket as 88 Films releases the historical drama fantasy Legend Of The Eight Samurai on Blu-Ray from a new 4K restoration with a new commentary track and more impressive special features.

The fine folks at OCN Distribution have an exciting slate of Partner Label titles on Blu-Ray this month that offers a little something for everyone. Film Movement Classics offers a New Zealand classic with the blistering Once Were Warriors. The main line of Film Movement delivers the surprisingly touching Mongolian coming-of-age tale The Sales Girl. The folks at ETR Media have the eerie Swedish drama Videoman on Blu-Ray. Dark Star rescues the Gregg Araki stoner comedy Smiley Face starring Anna Faris from the land of standard definition. IFC Films also upgraded the Paul Schrader dark odyssey The Canyons starring Lindsay Lohan with new interviews, commentary tracks, and video essays.

Vinegar Syndrome has the cyber-thriller Virtuosity starring Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe debuting on 4K UHD Blu-Ray from a 4K scan of the Original Camera Negative. The film has a pair of new commentary tracks, loads of interviews, and more all in exquisite packaging. Cinematographe has a pair of releases including the 4K UHD Blu-Ray debut of the Robert De Niro baseball drama Bang The Drum Slowly. This new release was derived from a 4K restoration with Dolby Vision and arrives with a treasure trove of supplements. They also have the Sidney Lumet thriller Child’s Play returning to Blu-Ray with a new 4K restoration and a world of special features including an hour-long documentary on Lumet.

This is only a taste of what you can discover on No Streaming Required this week, so be sure to check out the full video below.
