This week we explore exciting new releases from Kino Lorber, Kino Classics, and Kino Lorber Studio Classics. First up we have an abundance of 4K UHD Blu-ray debuts including a trio of ’90s thrillers. Jeff Bridges and Tommy Lee Jones lead an explosive bomb squad thriller Blown Away from a new 4K scan of the 35mm Original Camera Negative with Dolby Vision. Gene Hackman attempts to protect a crucial witness on a train in Narrow Margin, which has been given a 4K UHD SDR release. Turbulence takes to the skies as a prison transport on Christmas Eve goes awry. This Ray Liotta airplane thriller makes the leap to 4K UHD with a 4K scan of the Original Camera Negative in Dolby Vision.
Things also get a bit lighthearted on 4K UHD with the release of the Oscar-nominated comedy In & Out starring Kevin Kline and Joan Cusack. The film has gotten a fresh 4K scan of the Original Camera Negative in Dolby Vision with a new commentary track and some fun new interviews. Less awards-worthy but a classic to many is the Village People musical comedy Can’t Stop The Music featuring a 4K UHD restoration in SDR. This comes with a brand-new commentary track to accompany an archival commentary track.
Classic film fans have a lot to celebrate as we get the long-awaited Grace Kelly and Bing Crosby drama The Country Girl newly restored in 4K with a solid collection of special features. The label has also brought Oscar winners Come Back, Little Sheba and The Rose Tattoo to Blu-Ray with 4K restorations and new special features.
There is also a spotlight on a pair of filmmakers who should be on your radar. The underrated Patricia Rozema has a trio of films debuting on Blu-Ray with White Room, When Night Is Falling and Mouthpiece. Each one is a distinct work that builds upon the great debut I’ve Heard the Mermaids Singing. There are also three films from Patrice Leconte debuting domestically on Blu-Ray with The Hairdresser’s Husband, Yvonne’s Perfume, and Girl on the Bridge. This man knew how to capture longing on screen like few others, and they should be essential viewing for those who love French cinema.
This is only a taste of what you can discover on No Streaming Required this week, so be sure to check out the full video below.
