This week we preview the arrival of a hotly anticipated title around these parts as The Criterion Collection welcomes the critically acclaimed Barry Jenkins limited series The Underground Railroad to Blu-Ray. This release comes with Dolby Atmos audio and new bonus features including a commentary track for every episode and an additional companion film.
Elsewhere in the land of television, we find the Cartoon Network classic Dexter’s Laboratory: The Complete Series hitting DVD courtesy of Warner Bros. The company released the first season individually over a decade ago, so we are thrilled to finally have the complete run in one package. MVD Entertainment is dabbling in animation, as well, with the release of the bizarre television specials Witch’s Night Out and The Gift of Winter together on DVD. Oh, and did we mention South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut is debuting on 4K UHD Blu-Ray courtesy of Paramount with a new Dolby Vision presentation?
Over the past few years, Deaf Crocodile has become one of our favorite labels with all of their wonderfully weird releases from all over the globe, and this month is no exception. Ruslan and Ludmila is the final film from Russian legend Aleksandr Ptushko, and it takes you on a fantastical journey to rescue a young princess filled with incredible practical effects and epic set pieces. The new restoration is gorgeous and the Blu-Ray is packed with special features.
Sony has an impressive array of catalog Blu-Ray releases that we have been requesting for years. We are reliving a favorite from our youth with Beverly Hills Ninja from comedy legend Chris Farley. Many this week will be checking out Jeff Nichol’s new drama The Bikeriders, so now is the perfect time to check out his blistering debut Shotgun Stories with the great Michael Shannon. We also have the Oscar-winning western satire Cat Ballou with Jane Fonda and the crazy cool heist film The Burglars featuring one of the greatest car chases we have ever seen.
One of the most exciting releases from the first half of the year is the epic Severin box set of Bruce Lee exploitation films with The Game of Clones: Bruceploitation Collection, Vol. 1. With 15 films and hours of special features included, there is a lot to discuss. This is only a taste of what you can discover on No Streaming Required this week, so be sure to check out the full video below.
