This week, we explore films fresh from theaters, modern TV shows hitting Blu-Ray, and an exciting slate of gems from Radiance Films and Kino Lorber. First up, Searchlight Pictures has the adult dramedy Is This Thing On? from director Bradley Cooper arriving on 4K UHD Blu-Ray with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos audio. The film starring Will Arnett and Laura Dern comes with a making-of featurette. Lionsgate Limited has the Oliver Stone music biopic The Doors starring Val Kilmer and Meg Ryan on 4K UHD Blu-Ray SteelBook in Dolby Vision with Dolby Atmos. The release comes with engaging new supplements plus archival features such as a commentary track, featurettes, deleted scenes, and more.

The fun continues at Universal with a double dose of recent TV shows hitting Blu-Ray. The beloved Netflix limited series Scott Pilgrim Takes Off breaks the streaming shackles and brings all 8 episodes to disc with a commentary track provided for each episode. There is also the cult favorite Syfy series Resident Alien bringing all four seasons and 44 episodes to Blu-Ray with special features such as deleted scenes.

The heroes at Radiance Films have a stellar slate of titles not to be missed this month. The Jeff Bridges and John Heard crime noir Cutter’s Way hits 4K UHD Blu-Ray from a new 4K scan of the Original Camera Negative in Dolby Vision. The release comes with new and archival special features including commentary tracks, interviews, and more. They also have the Polish drama The Dancing Hawk from acclaimed filmmaker Grzegorz Królikiewicz. The Blu-Ray release stems from a 4K restoration and includes interviews and short films.

In the world of Asian cinema, Radiance has the modern romantic melodrama Romancing in Thin Air from legendary director Johnnie To. This Blu-Ray release includes a commentary track, a visual essay, an interview, and a making-of featurette. Takashi Miike helms an epic yakuza drama as The Agitator heads to Blu-Ray with an HD transfer of the theatrical cut and an extended version presented in standard definition. Special features include a commentary track and interviews.

Scott Pilgrim Takes Off (L to R) Mark Webber as Stephen Stills, Ellen Wong as Knives Chau, Kieran Culkin as Wallace Wells, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Ramona Flowers, Michael Cera as Scott Pilgrim, Johnny Simmons as Young Neil and Alison Pill as Kim Pine in Scott Pilgrim Takes Off

The folks at Kino Lorber Studio Classics have a slew of 4K UHD Blu-Ray releases to admire. One of the biggest releases this month is Guillermo del Toro’s early sci-fi horror thriller Mimic starring Mira Sorvino, Josh Brolin, F. Murray Abraham, and more. Both the Theatrical Cut and Director’s Cut are presented in 4K UHD with Dolby Vision, plus numerous special features. We also have the Kenneth Branagh thriller Dead Again co-starring Emma Thompson, Robin Williams, and Andy Garcia on 4K UHD from a 4K scan of the 35mm Original Camera Negative in Dolby Vision.

The 4K UHD upgrades continue as the romantic classic Somewhere in Time starring Christopher Reeve, Jane Seymour, and Christopher Plummer comes to the format from a 4K scan of the 35mm Original Camera Negative in Dolby Vision. The release comes with three commentary tracks, a documentary, and more. The mountain climbing drama K2 debuts from a 4K scan of the 35mm Original Camera Negative in Dolby Vision. The release includes a commentary track and interviews.

Blu-Ray fans can also celebrate with some upgrades, including the debut of the Woody Harrelson and Billy Crudup period melodrama Hi-Lo Country with a commentary track. We stay in the past with the music biopic Scott Joplin starring Billy Dee Williams as the legendary titular musician. The Blu-Ray comes with a commentary track. Those in need of a bit more levity can seek out A Night in the Life of Jimmy Reardon starring River Phoenix, which includes a new commentary track.
