A collection of DVD and Blu-ray cases, including titles like Superman, Little House on the Prairie, Dogtooth, and Emergency! The Complete Series, stacked against a blue background.

We at GVN aim to keep you informed of the newest and best in the world of physical media. Over on our YouTube Channel, you can find us talking about everything you need to know on No Streaming Required, our weekly guide to all the latest 4K UHD, Blu-Ray, and DVD releases.

For the week of September 23rd, we have some incredible releases making their way to our shelves. Read on to get a brief overview of what you should have on your wishlist, then be sure to dive into the full rundown in the video below.

This week, we spotlight the highly anticipated 4K UHD Blu-Ray debut of the beloved musical classic The Sound of Music from Disney and 20th Century Studios. The new release has been given a gorgeous 4K restoration presented in Dolby Vision with Dolby Atmos audio. The release comes with a load of special features including two commentary tracks, multiple documentaries, featurettes, and more. This is not the only sterling upgrade as Sony gives the raucous Western favorite Silverado a 4K restoration from the Original Camera Negative. The film starring Kevin Kline, Scott Glenn, Danny Glover, and Kevin Costner arrives on 4K UHD Blu-Ray in Dolby Vision with Dolby Atmos audio and a selection of archival supplements.

Warner Bros. has a major new release with the DC reset Superman from director James Gunn arriving on 4K UHD Blu-Ray in Dolby Vision with Dolby Atmos audio. The release includes an hour-long making-of documentary and nine additional featurettes exploring the creation of the film. The studio has also remastered Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride for a 4K UHD Blu-Ray release in HDR10 with Dolby Atmos audio. The release includes two new featurettes along with the previously available supplements. They also dabble in television with the HBO drama The Last of Us: Season 2 on 4K UHD Blu-Ray with all seven episodes in Dolby Vision with Dolby Atmos audio and a wide array of special features.

We have some more films fresh from theaters including the romantic dramedy Materialists from A24 starring Dakota Johnson, Chris Evans, and Pedro Pascal. The Blu-Ray release comes with Dolby Atmos audio and special features such as a commentary track, a making-of featurette, and more. There is also the 4K UHD Blu-Ray release of the sci-fi action sequel M3GAN 2.0 in Dolby Vision with Dolby Atmos audio. The release comes with a new Unrated version alongside the theatrical version alongside a handful of featurettes.

The heroes at Radiance Films continue to deliver quality work with an exciting box set this month. We get a follow-up to one of our favorite releases from them with Daiei Gothic Vol 2: Japanese Ghost Stories on Blu-Ray featuring The Demon of Mount Oe, The Haunted Castle, and The Ghost of Kasane Swamp. This trio of films has been given 4K restorations and special features such as interviews, visual essays, and more.

Fans of Kevin Smith and his universe of collaborators will want to check out the latest release from Smodcastle Cinema and MVD Entertainment. The absurdist anthology comedy Big Helium Dog from director Brian Lynch arrives on Blu-Ray restored from the Original Camera Negative with some great supplements including two commentary tracks, an hour-long Q&A with the cast and creative team, auditions, and more.

The fine folks at Lionsgate Limited are celebrating the 15th anniversary of Daybreakers with a new 4K UHD Blu-Ray exclusively on their website. The release has Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos audio, and a bevy of new and archival special features including a commentary track, interviews, and more. The twisted Yorgos Lanthimos film Dogtooth gets a 4K UHD Blu-Ray upgrade from Kino Lorber with a fresh 4K restoration in Dolby Vision with two commentary tracks, interviews, and deleted scenes.
