For the week of September 24th, we have some incredible releases making their way to our shelves. Read on to get a brief overview of what you should have on your wishlist, then be sure to dive into the full rundown in the video below.
This week we dive into the concluding chapter of the most recent DC animation event with Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths, Part 3 on 4K UHD SteelBook. The release comes with HDR10 and a couple of featurettes that look at the creation of the trilogy. We also have the eagerly anticipated Blu-Ray debut Super Friends: The Complete Series which includes all the different iterations of the Super Friends from 1973-1985. These episodes have been remastered in beautiful HD by the team at Warner Bros. and are spread over 16 discs. Also on the television front is Young Sheldon: The Complete Series which includes all seven seasons of the family sitcom in one package on 14 discs.
We also shine a spotlight on the Brian De Palma erotic thriller Body Double out now from Sony with a new 4K presentation in Dolby Vision with Dolby Atmos audio along with original audio options. The release comes with some archival featurettes including a multi-part retrospective documentary. We keep up the exploration of De Palma with a look at the Blu-Ray release from Femme Fatale from Shout! Studios which is derived from a 2K scan of the Interpositive and includes new interviews with actor Gregg Henry and editor Bill Pankow.
A more comedic side of the label finds the Blu-Ray release of the Seth Rogen dark comedy Observe and Report from a new 2K scan of the Interpositive along with a terrific new interview with director Jody Hill. There is even more on the Blu-Ray front from the label including the Michael Crichton medical thriller comedy Coma, the Jim Caviezel road revenge thriller Highwaymen, the Patton Oswalt character drama Big Fan, the Robin Williams political satire Man of the Year, and clever work comedy Clockwatchers with Toni Collette, Lisa Kudrow, and Parker Posey.
We have a slew of new titles from the Vinegar Syndrome family. Over at Cinematographe, we have the Rose Troche queer arthouse classic Go Fish on Blu-Ray courtesy of a 4K restoration from its original 16mm negatives. The new release comes with two new audio commentary tracks plus new interviews with the director and three of the performers. The OCN Distribution partner labels have a lot to love starting with the acerbic indie comedy Dogleg from Memory. Experience one of the greatest documentaries of all time as Icarus Films releases The Battle of Chile on Blu-Ray from a new 2K restoration. This release also comes with a bonus film that functions as a precursor to the three-part doc. Film Movement Classics is very busy this month with a two-pack of films from Kinji Fukasaku with the domestic debuts of Wolves, Pigs and Men and Violent Panic: The Big Crash. The label also released a trio of films from Jessica Hausner including Lovely Rita, Hotel, and Lourdes. The first two films make their North American debut with new 4K restorations.
In the world of Asian cinema, we have two of our favorite boutique labels putting out some amazing titles. Over at 88 Films, we have a trio of Shaw Brothers films with the domestic Blu-Ray debuts of To Kill A Mastermind, The Shadow Boxing, and The Golden Lotus from new HD masters. Eureka Entertainment continues its steady offering of Hong Kong gems with the soccer dramedy The Champions featuring a 2K restoration and some great new special features including two commentary tracks. The label also has the double feature Two Taoist Tales featuring Taoism Drunkard and The Young Taoism Fighter. Each film sports a 2K restoration and new special features including two commentary tracks a piece.
