This piece was written during the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Without the labor of the writers and actors currently on strike, the movie being covered here wouldn’t exist.
An irresistibly romantic comedy from the director of Moonstruck, Only You stars Marisa Tomei and Robert Downey Jr. as lovers destined to meet and fall in love. Tomei stars as Faith Corvatch, who, at age 11, asks her Ouija board the name of the man she would marry. As a teen, she asks a carnival gypsy, and receives the same answer: Damon Bradley. But when Damon Bradley never shows, the grown Faith decides to marry an earnest podiatrist. Just 10 days before the wedding, Faith’s fiance receives a message from a high school alum- Damon Bradley. On a wing and a prayer, Faith flies to Italy with her best friend in search of Damon.

Video Quality
Only You debuts on Blu-Ray in its original 1.85:1 aspect ratio from a master that looks really great. Sony handles the remastering of all of their titles, and given the quality it would not surprise us if this was remastered in the past few years. For fans of the film, this high definition upgrade is very welcome and serves this movie perfectly well. The wonderful film grain present resolves favorably and looks natural while allowing minute details to shine through. Every element comes through with great clarity, especially in clothing and elements of the background on location. Facial features are detailed with makeup finely textured alongside natural skin tones. Colors are deep and vibrant as they bring out the full range of all the hues. Highlights stay firm, and black levels are pretty deep without any noticeable blocking or compression artifacts. This Blu-Ray is a rock solid presentation from Sony.
Audio Quality
Sony Pictures Home Entertainment brings us this Blu-Ray with a DTS-HD 5.1 Master Audio track that handles this material admirably. Dialogue comes through clearly without being overshadowed by any of the music or environmental effects. The sounds accompanying the international journey bring well-rounded life to the rear speakers. The soundtrack aids in establishing the mood of the film with these tunes being given palpable depth within the mix. The environmental effects are impressively defined and given a thoughtful placement throughout the speakers. This is a track that keeps things lively and inviting. Sony has done a swell job with this one. There are optional English SDH, French and Spanish subtitles provided.

Final Thoughts
Only You is a passable romantic comedy, but it lacks the key ingredients necessary to make it a classic within the genre. Marisa Tomei provides the best reason to watch the film, as she exudes charm throughout. We wish that translated to her chemistry with Robert Downey Jr., who is too obnoxious and thinly written to make you fall for his schtick. We prefer her dynamic with her best friend played by Bonnie Hunt, who is dealing with emotions that seem more genuine than the main narrative. There are moments that succeed, but with a movie like this you hope for more than moments. Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has released a Blu-Ray with a really good A/V presentation and nothing in the way of special features. Fans of the film will be thrilled to finally have this available in high definition. Recommended

Dillon is most comfortable sitting around in a theatre all day watching both big budget and independent movies.
