Oscar Isaac Says His Costume in X-Men: Apocalypse Was “Excruciating”

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”10306″ img_size=”900×500″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]Oscar Isaac is beloved by many people. While it may have been fun to watch him play the mutant Apocalypse in X-Men: Apocalypse, the costuming was not fun for him. In fact, in a recent interview; Isaac described wearing the costume/makeup was “excruciating”.

“Apocalypse, that was excruciating. I didn’t know, when I said yes, that that was what was going to be happening — that I was going to be encased in glue, and latex, and in a 40-pound suit that I had to wear a cooling mechanism at all times.”

Having to wear the restricted makeup also made it difficult for the actor to interact with any of his co-stars, such as Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fasbender, and James McAvoy.

“I was like, ‘oh, I get to work with these great actors that I like so much,’ but I couldn’t even see them because I couldn’t move my head. And I had to sit on a specially designed saddle, because that’s the only thing I could really sit on, and I would be rolled into a cooling tent in-between takes.”

“So I just wouldn’t ever talk to anybody, and I’d just kind of be sitting [still] — and I couldn’t really move, and sweating inside the mask and helmet.”

“And every time I moved, it was just like rubbers and plastic squeaking, so everything I said had to be dubbed later as well. And then getting it off was the worst part, because they just had to kind of scrape it off for hours and hours.”

There have been a lot of actors who have made the sacrifice to portray a character while weighed down by a difficult costume. Tom Hiddleston himself has stated how heavy the horned helmet was, making it hard to move while acting his scenes.

What did you think of Isaac’s performance in X-Men: Apocalypse.
