Patty Jenkins Says She Is Grateful Things Did Not Work Out on Thor 2

I think it is safe to say that Wonder Woman was made for Patty Jenkins and Patty Jenkins was made for Wonder Woman. As a DC fan we are thrilled that Jenkins joined DC to direct Wonder Woman and we all await the release of Wonder Woman 1984 which was moved to August 14. Before Patty joined DC though she was hired to direct Thor: The Dark World which made actress Natalie Portman very happy. Things did not work out though and Jenkins left the project. Which in all honesty was the best move. Thor: The Dark World is considered by many to be the worst MCU movie to date.

Jenkins opened up about the ordeal to Vanity Fair saying

“I did not believe that I could make a good movie out of the script that they were planning on doing. I think it would have been a huge deal—it would have looked like it was my fault. It would’ve looked like, ‘Oh my God, this woman directed it and she missed all these things.’ That was the one time in my career where I really felt like, ‘Do this with [another director] and it’s not going to be a big deal. And maybe they’ll understand it and love it more than I do.’ You can’t do movies you don’t believe in. The only reason to do it would be to prove to people that I could. But it wouldn’t have proved anything if I didn’t succeed. I don’t think that I would have gotten another chance. And so, I’m super grateful.”

I for one do not think had Patty stayed on that it would have been career suicide but it might have meant the door to Wonder Woman would have not been opened. Like I said above, the two were meant for each other. Patty has no ill will towards Marvel and had this to say

“I really have nothing but positive things to say about Marvel, because, honestly, they gave me that chance in the first place and it was not en vogue to do so,”

Are glad Patty did not direct Thor or do you think she would have made a better film than Alan Taylor? Share your thoughts with us in the comments below.
