    Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie

When a magical meteor crash lands in Adventure City, it gives the PAW Patrol pups superpowers, transforming them into The MIGHTY PUPS!  But they face their mightiest challenge yet when the pups’ archrival Humdinger breaks out of jail and teams up with Victoria Vance, a mad scientist, to steal the superpowers for themselves. With the fate of Adventure City hanging in the balance, the Mighty Pups have to stop the supervillains before it’s too late.

For in-depth thoughts on PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie, please see my colleague Dom Fisher’s review from its original theatrical release here.

    Video Quality

PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie comes to Blu-Ray with a resplendent 1080p transfer. One of the areas where the films continue to outpace the television show is the fluid nature of the character designs. All of the individual strands of hair are unique and move in a subtly more natural way. The level of detail these animators pack into each environment shines through here. Black levels are robust with no hint of compression artifacts or digital anomalies of the sort. The colors present are practically radiating off the screen with the wide range of hues saturating every inch of the frame. The textures, from the character designs to the environments, are extremely impressive and give the film a real sense of depth. It is difficult to ask for better from a modern film.

    Audio Quality

This Blu-Ray utilizes a Dolby Atmos track that gives this active film a surprising punch. Dialogue is crisp and clear without ever getting drowned out by the music or sound effects. The low-end effects from the subwoofer give certain developments extra weight to enhance the stakes. Atmospheric sound effects are rendered precisely within the mix so that directionality is never an issue. There is an emphasis on the front channels for a good portion of the sounds, but activity extends into the surrounds and rears during the more action-oriented bits. The film truly satisfies when it comes to the music, and this track pumps the tunes throughout the room in an enveloping way. PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie offers a dynamite soundscape that adults will appreciate even more than the kids.

    Final Thoughts

PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie continues the trend of offering an entertaining time for more than just the youngest members of the audience. Older kids and adults who do not take themselves too seriously will get wrapped up in a wholesome story filled with terrific vocal performances and gorgeous animation that will put a smile on your face. The positive message at the core of the film is beneficial for anyone of any age to hear. Younger kids deserve to have entertainment created for them that is not carelessly crafted or talking down to them, and this franchise seems to be one of the leaders in that space. Paramount Home Entertainment has released a Blu-Ray that features a fetching A/V presentation and a couple of brief features. Anyone looking for something family-friendly should give this one a shot. PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie will be available to purchase on Blu-Ray and DVD on December 12, 2023. The film is currently available on Digital.
