Pennyworth EP Calls Series “Unhinged” Compared To ‘Gotham’

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”11813″ img_size=”800×450″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]We are just a few short weeks away from Gotham wrapping up its fifth and final season but that is not stopping DC and Warner Bros. from creating more Bat-family shows. The CW is filming the Batwoman pilot now and soon EPIX will be debuting its series based on the life of Bruce Wayne’s trusted butler and father figure, Alfred Pennyworth. Pennyworth was a hot topic at this years TCA and EP for Gotham and Pennyworth, Danny Cannon had some nice and disturbing things to say about the series. Cannon says the series will be dark, like “13 degrees darker”. The series will star Jack Bannon and according to the story it will follow an Alfred fresh out of British SAS service. Alfred will begin who own security company where he will find employment under Thomas Wayne. Right now the series is only for 10 episodes.

Cannon says this about the timeline and style of the show

“It’s twenty something years before Gotham, it’s a very different world, his is the DC version of 1960s London.
“13 degrees history is different: It’s not the England we know. It looks and feels like, but if you look a little closer, [you ask], ‘Why is that like that? Why is that building there? What war is he talking about?’”

Cannon calls Pennyworth completely “unhinged, R-rated” when comparing it with his other series, Gotham.  Cannon also says we will not see Batman villains in this show but instead Alfred will square off against some descendants of well known criminals such as Jack the Ripper.  Cannon said that so far the series has tested well and that the audience loves that the characters are so drawn out. He adds that many who saw the show did not even realize it was based on DC characters.

Sounds like a show to check out for sure and might be something we all really enjoy despite many not even wanting this series to begin with. How do you feel about this news? Share your thoughts with us in the comments below.
