Pixar Makes A Surprising Announcement: New Movie “Soul” Arriving in 2020

Up until this point, Pixar fans did not really have much of a clue as to what kinds of movies to expect after Toy Story 4 comes out in theaters. Though Pixar has several released dates already booked, little to no information has been given out about what those films could possibly be. The only movie that has been officially announced is Onward, the fantasy adventure starring Chris Pratt and Tom Holland. The film is set to be directed by Pete Doctor.

On Wednesday morning, however, Pixar made a surprising announcement and revealed the title and logo for its new animated film, Soul.

Pixar tweeted out: “One year from today, Pixar Animation Studios will take you on a journey from the streets of New York City to the cosmic realms to discover the answers to life’s most important questions,” Pixar wrote in a tweet. “Disney & Pixar’s Soul arrives in theaters on June 19, 2020.”

Again, we do not really know what to expect out of this movie. There have been no further details on the plot, the cast, or even the director behind the film. According to Comicbook.com, there is speculation that “this could be the feature film debut of Domee Shi, who gained a ton of buzz following the release of her Oscar-winning short film, Bao.”

Regardless of who is directing this new Pixar film, I think there is no question that moviegoers will be immensely pleased to see more original content from this storytelling powerhouse of a studio.
