PS Plus Games and Best Deals for January 2019

Its a new year and with it brings a whole bunch of brand new free PS Plus games for us to have a good look at. We’re looking at 6 titles this month with 3 of them playable on the PS4. The games themselves might not be the strongest we’ve seen but there’s a generous helping of freebies for other popular titles as well as plenty of January deas for us to break down so let’s get into it.

Steep

Steep is an open-world title where your sole goal is to explore the beautiful snow-topped mountains you find yourselves in by snow-boarding, skiing, para-gliding and finally wing-suit jumping. The game is online so you can go toe-to-toe and compete with other snowboarders from around the world and completing challenges, mastering tricks, and customizing your avatar are all great ways to stand out from the crowd. Reviews and fan feedback are mainly positive for this one although it is quite obviously not everyone’s cup of tea. I personally haven’t played Steep but if you have I’d be interested in hearing your thoughts on it.

Portal Knights

Next up we have Portal Knights, a game that seems to have taken not only the look but crafting and building parts of Minecraft and combined them with Action-RPG elements to create a fantastic fantasy adventure. Choose a class, assign skills, level up, defeat monsters, explore dungeons, build to your heart’s content, I mean what isn’t there to love? You can even party up with 3 friends to go adventuring with, which defiantly highlights those Action-RPG elements. The console version of Portal Knights released May 2017 and was pretty well received with a Metacritic score of 71. Much more my type of game compared to Steep but will you be giving Portal Knights a try?

Fallen Legion: Flames of Rebellion

The third and final PS4 title this month, and also playable on the Vita is Fallen Legion: Flames of Rebellion. An Action-RPG, Fallen Legion is again another acquired taste however from what I’ve seen its a little hit or miss for most people. Drops in frame rate when the action starts and dragging load times might hinder the experience but a fairly decent narrative and extremely fun combat might make up for those small blemishes. The art style is extremely pretty but ultimately I’m not sold on this one. What are your thoughts?

Zone of the Enders HD Collection

The first of our PS3 titles this month and we have Zone of the Enders. A futuristic tale set in the 22nd-century mankind now uses MECH’s for all sorts of tasks from labor to combat purposes. You’ll be spending the majority of your time doing the latter. The story revolves around stopping a superweapon that could destroy the universe. Not the most original I’ll grant you but if your a SCi-FI geek and into all things MECH’s you might want to give the collection a go.

Amplitude

Next up we have amplitude, now have you ever wished you could play Guitar Hero and simultaneously fly tiny little ships as well? No thought not, but nevertheless, here it is. Memorize beats, improve your timing, and learn note combinations to help build the tracks of the songs. If you’re into electronic dance tracks than you’ll love this one, if not then maybe you might want to pass it up.

Super Mutant Alien Assult

Our final game of the month and our second PS-Vita title is Super Mutant Alien Assult. You, one of the last surviving humans must survive against all sorts of well…super mutant alines. This is an arcade shooter with some light traversal thrown in, that brilliant retro style which I adore and it even has 2 player co-op. Pretty cut and dry if I’m honest. Will you give it a go?

Freebies for Free Games

This month sees quite a few additions for some well known free to play games being offered up with PS Plus so let’s go through them. Fortnite has a brand new exclusive character skin as well as some new back-bling. Paladins is offering up an exclusive Viktor Soldier skin. Warface has an Arctic Bodyskin Pack up for grabs, and finally Warframe’s booster pack 3 is available offering all sorts of goodies from currency to some timed in-game boosters.
