Breaking news from space! The bad: An intrepid captain and his men have landed on a planet where males are outlawed. The good: Some women there are eager to break the law! Queen of Outer Space is a milestone of movie camp. Eric Fleming plays the granite-jawed leader who shares with his crew the crime of maleness. That’s just the start of their troubles. The man-hating Venusian Queen (Laurie Mitchell) aims to destroy Earth once a Beta Disintegrator is operational. But a gossamer-gowned scientist (Zsa Zsa Gabor) and her curvy cohorts eye the men, and they like what they see. This bijou bauble has sets, costumes and effects from Flight to Mars, Forbidden Planet and World Without End. Have fun spotting them. Botchino!

Video Quality
Queen of Outer Space was released on Blu-Ray in 2018 courtesy of the Warner Archive in a lush 1080p transfer derived from a 2K scan of the Interpositive. As is typical with films of a lower budget and a penchant for special effects work, there is a minor bit of variance when opticals are utilized, thanks to the technical process of the time. That being said, this transfer handles the obstacle just as deftly as desired with a nod to authenticity. The filmic quality is carefully maintained with a resplendent amount of natural grain that yields exceptional detail. Colors emanate from the screen with a delectible vibrancy that never fails to capture the otherworldly hues. The production design takes on a playful and wondrous appearance with countless flourishes that liven up the frame. We did not spot any digital shortcomings such as compression artifacts or banding. Warner Archive has done favorable work here.
Audio Quality
This Blu-Ray comes with an enjoyable DTS-HD 2.0 Master Audio mono track that heroically preserves the original soundscape without a misstep. Dialogue is crisp and clear without being swallowed up by sound effects like weapon noises. The more bustling moments create an active track that is more rewarding than you might assume. The music in the film establishes the tone and renders with a fine fidelity. This track provides a listening experience free of any major blemishes or digital anomalies that would put a damper on the viewing experience. Optional English SDH subtitles are provided for those who desire them.
Special Features
- Audio Commentary: Author, film researcher, and historian Tom Weaver is joined by the late Laurie Mitchell in this archival commentary track in which she shares numerous anecdotes about the production of the film, shares memories about her co-stars, and much more.

Final Thoughts
Queen of Outer Space is a perfectly charming example of the joy that a low-rent sci-fi adventure can bring when done right. The reality that is conjured through handcrafted production design and stitched-together costumes is a pleasant fantasy to get lost in for 90 minutes. Sure, the plot is fairly ridiculous and there are some dated ideas, but it overall feels harmless in its execution. It hits the spot if you want a movie that represents this era of campy sci-fi filmmaking. Warner Archive has released a Blu-Ray featuring a noteworthy A/V presentation but not much in the way of special features. If you have an affinity for the genre, the presentation will leave you happy. Recommended
Queen of Outer Space can be purchased directly through MovieZyng or through various other online retailers.

Dillon is most comfortable sitting around in a theatre all day watching both big budget and independent movies.
