RB Leipzig’s esports roster has won the first Showdown of the 2026-27 season in the WOW Virtual Bundesliga Club Championship. The playoffs were held on 25 October in the Business Club at Munich’s Allianz Arena, and RBLZ Gaming announced the title on 26 October. The two-legged final against SC Paderborn 07 ended 12-11 on aggregate, with the winning goal coming in extra time.
Six matches, six wins
In the Club Championship, clubs compete rather than individual players. Each has its own EA FC roster, its own crest on screen and its own line in the overall standings. The season is divided into Showdowns. Each one opens with an online stage, and the best teams then go through to an offline bracket.
RBLZ’s online stage was flawless. It won all six matches and took the maximum 18 points. The 59-25 goal difference is even more impressive, working out at almost ten goals scored per match against four conceded.
Nobody watches online rounds like these the way they’d watch ordinary football on TV. It’s more of an evening with a laptop, with the stream on half the screen, the chat open and the group table in the next tab. Some viewers will have an online casino such as Spinlander open alongside, and at https://spinlanderslots.com/ crash games and blackjack hands run in short rounds that fit neatly into the breaks between matches. The tournament itself waits for no one. The six rounds follow in quick succession, and RBLZ arrived in Munich with maximum points.
Playoffs in the Business Club
The offline event in Munich attracted more than 600 spectators, and entry was free. By virtual football standards, that’s a proper live crowd. The choice of venue says plenty too, with the EA FC tournament staged at FC Bayern Munich’s stadium. The host club billed it on its website as an event at its own arena (judging by the name, the Business Club is aimed more at corporate guests than at fans with controllers).
RBLZ’s route to the final was uneven. It saw off Holstein Kiel 8-4 without much fuss. VfB Stuttgart made things far tighter at 9-7, with only two goals separating the sides. But in its last match before the final, the Leipzig side simply took SV Darmstadt 98 apart, 13-8.
A one-goal final
Things got off to a bad start against Paderborn, which won the first leg 5-4. RBLZ had to come back in the second.
Nassada faced Jonas “Jonny” Wirth in that leg. Neither player could pull away in normal time, but in extra time Nassada finally wore his opponent down, 8-6. That made it 12-11 on aggregate.
There’s something amusing, perhaps, about a team that scored between 8 and 13 goals a match in the playoffs winning the title by a single goal.
What the win brings
The first Showdown winners took home around €9,000 in prize money. Not that the money is the main thing here. The win earned eight bonus points in the overall standings and a direct place in the final of the VBL Player Championship.
After ten matches, RBLZ has ten wins. That puts it on 26 points in the overall standings, with a goal difference of 101-55.
It’s easy to see where those 26 points came from. The online stage brought in 18, and the title added another 8. Of the 101 goals scored, 42 came in the four playoff matches, while the 30 conceded there were more than in all six online rounds combined. Munich proved a noticeably tougher test.
Berlin is next
The second Showdown begins online on 3 November. The offline playoffs are scheduled for 14 November, with XPERION Berlin as host.
Munich appears to have shown that virtual football in Germany can already draw a live crowd to a stadium. In Berlin, RBLZ will be defending its lead, and the rest of the field will be chasing a team that has yet to lose.
