RECAP: We Came, We Saw, We Conquered New York Comic Con 2018

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Another year, another New York Comic Con. We came, we saw, we conquered. The Big Apple presented its biggest convention and boy, was it a packed house. Did you survive the gridlock that happened at every intersection on the main floor of the convention? Did you not even see an empty seat when you traveled to the food court and did you get to see your favorite actor? While it can get crowded and at times overwhelming, there’s nothing as exciting or as exhilarating at NYCC.

We had a lot of exciting panels this year, including American Gods, Daredevil, Gotham, The Gifted, Titans, The Walking Dead, and so many more. Many released trailers for their upcoming seasons and a few premiered clips that were never before seen by the public. I have to say, I’m most excited for American Gods and Daredevil – both are going to be amazing. One of our very own at Geek Vibes Nation was even able to nab interviews with Ryan Potter, Teagan Croft, and Minka Kelly of the upcoming DC Universe series Titans.

Of course, one of the best things about NYCC is all the amazing cosplay. I saw some spectacular and creative costumes this year, including a Joaquin Phoenix style Joker, a comic book traditional Wilson Fisk, and some seriously cool Loki and Hela convention goers. Our very own Brittany Heigle dressed up as the one and only Spider-Gwen, which the Spider-Man Universe was wildly popular at NYCC this year.

Unfortunately, one of the aspects that made NYCC so easy to get to this year was unavailable. Normally, you can take the 7 line from Grand Central, which takes you to about a block away from the Jacob Javits Center. For Saturday and Sunday, the stop you would need to get off at was under construction, making it frustrating and pricey to get to and from the location.

One other criticism I would give, is that there were a few interviews at the SYFY stage that was right next to an advertisement booth and the booth was blasting loud music. This made trying to listen to The Gifted and Gotham cast interviews very difficult to nearly impossible. This kind of set up was poor planning and I believe if you are going to have actors promoting their show, then there needs to be some conversation with the neighboring booths – that’s just my opinion.

Although my feet are aching and I could use three more cups of coffee, I love NYCC. It’s a fantastic collection of fans of every genre coming together to celebrate our interests. Whether you are into Marvel, DC, Anime, Wrestling, Comic books, video games, nick nacks, and everything in between, there’s a place for you. And if you have any concerns about dressing up, just do it. Even if your cosplay is from something that you may not believe is that popular, someone will recognize it, and you’ll probably make that person’s day.

New York Comic Con will return in 2019 from October 3rd to October 9th! Save the date!
