Josh Gad and Kaya Scodelario in Adulthood

Featuring Josh Gad, Kaya Scodelario, Billie Lourd, Anthony Carrigan, and Alex Winter

October 22, 2024 – Los Angeles, CA – Republic Pictures has officially secured the U.S. and Canadian rights to Adulthood, the latest directorial effort from Alex Winter. Known for his work both in front of and behind the camera, Winter has crafted a darkly comic modern noir, written by acclaimed novelist Michael M.B. Galvin. The film stars an impressive ensemble cast, including Josh Gad (Gutenberg! The Musical!), Kaya Scodelario (The Gentlemen), Billie Lourd (Booksmart), Anthony Carrigan (Barry), and Winter himself (Bill & Ted Face the Music).

    Synopsis

Adulthood centers on siblings Megan and Noah, played by Scodelario and Gad, who are struggling to stay afloat in present-day America. Their already fragile lives are thrown into chaos when they discover a long-buried body in their parents’ basement. This shocking revelation drags them back to the hometown they thought they’d escaped for good, plunging them into a dangerous rabbit hole of crime and murder.

Winter, whose diverse career spans cult classic comedies and serious documentary work, expressed his excitement about partnering with Republic Pictures for the North American release of Adulthood. “I couldn’t be more excited to be working with Republic Pictures,” said Winter. “They have great instincts and are dedicated to quality indie movies.”

The film boasts a star-studded cast. Josh Gad, fresh off his acclaimed Broadway run in Gutenberg! The Musical!, takes on the role of Noah, while Kaya Scodelario portrays Megan. Billie Lourd, known for her roles in Booksmart and American Horror Story, and Anthony Carrigan, Emmy-nominated for his work on Barry, round out the principal cast. Winter, an established director and actor, also appears in the film.

Adulthood brings together an experienced team of producers, with Winter himself producing alongside Scott Kroopf (Limitless), Russell Hollander (Flight Risk), and Lisa Wolofsky (Tow). Olive Hill Media, led by Michael Cho and Tim Lee, financed the film, with Fresh Fish Films’ Danny Roberts, H.S. Naji, and Jackie Langelier also producing. Connie Tavel (Confess, Fletch) and Mimi Rode of Olive Hill Media serve as executive producers, while Rocket Science is handling international sales, led by Thorsten Schumacher as executive producer.

The production has attracted talent from across the industry. Scodelario is represented by CAA and Anonymous Content, while Lourd and Gad are both represented by CAA, with Gad also being managed by Sugar23 and Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole. Carrigan is repped by CAA, Schlegel Entertainment, and Mitch Smelkinson, and Winter is represented by CAA, Forward Entertainment, Hollander Entertainment, and Sloss Eckhouse Dasti.
