It’s been three years since STARZ canceled American Gods and while fans were originally promised a conclusive ending to the Neil Gaiman show, there’s been silence on the project since then. However, actor Ricky Whittle, who played the main character Shadow Moon; gave some hope in a recent interview with Bleeding Cool.

While many assume that, due to the show not having a massive fanbase and also having a divisive run considering the multiple changes in showrunners; Whittle assured that the project didn’t die off in the background:

“It is very much not dead. I’ve had discussions for about two, three years now with Neil Gaiman about taking it somewhere to finish it, to another streamer to finish the story.”

    Whittle continued:

“So there’s more story there for Shadow Moon to return. And it’s something that I’m very interested in. I want to finish the book ‘American Gods,” Neil [Gaiman] and I want to finish it for the fans. He wants to finish that story because the end of the book is the best part. It’s such an incredible twist that it would be a crime for us not to finish it. So there’s definitely movement, and there’s definitely talks between myself and Neil Gaiman in bringing bringing a team back to kind of finish the story.”

As a massive fan of the show, it does make me happy to hear the show is still on the minds of people like Whittle and Gaiman. Since it’s been three years with little to no buzz about the show, I don’t want to get my hopes up. But, things like this have happened. Look at SYFY’s Wynonna Earp. That show ended in 2021 and is now getting a 90-minute special on Tubi. Realistically, that’s all a fan like me could ask for. Tubi, do your thing!

Then again, Geek Vibes Nation did recently talk to Ian McShane, who played Mr. Wednesday. While the interview was for McShane’s movie American Star, I did get a chance to mention how much I loved American Gods after the press team stopped recording. It was quick and all McShane said was along the lines of “what a great show that just got messed up behind the scenes. I have so much to say, next time!” Of course, when or if that next time will ever come is hard to say.

Do you want to see a conclusive ending to American Gods or do you think fans should just accept their losses? Let us know!
