The digital world is a dangerous place.

Parents everywhere put their faith and trust in Roblox believing it was a safe place for kids to play games and socialize with friends…

They couldn’t have been more wrong.

The once carefree kids video game site is facing lawsuits from multiple state attorney generals. Families from all over the country are suing the company. Parents are describing graphic sexual conversations their children were a part of on Roblox.

Here’s what you need to know:

    1. Why Roblox Is Being Sued
    2. How Widespread Is the Issue?
    3. How Are Children Being Targeted?
    4. Safety Features in Place
    5. How to Keep your Family Safe

    Why Roblox Is Being Sued

Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti was blunt when describing Roblox. “It’s the digital equivalent of a creepy cargo van parked at the edge of a playground.”

    Ouch.

    But he has a point…

Three states so far, Tennessee, Kentucky, Iowa and Louisiana have filed lawsuits against Roblox. The families and state attorney generals claim Roblox knowingly allowed children to be preyed on by sexual predators all while collecting billions of dollars in profit.

If your family has been affected by child predators on Roblox, you’ll want to read about the Roblox sexual abuse lawsuit process.

    Legal documents state that Roblox:

    • Purposely avoided doing anything that would slow down their growth
    • Didn’t properly police ages of users
    • Allowed predators to easily contact children
    • Made parents believe their kids were safe using the site

In December of 2025, more than 80 lawsuits were combined into one federal multi district litigation. This typically means that a lawsuit covers a wider issue affecting many people.

    How Widespread Is the Issue?

    Okay let’s do some math…

Roblox has an estimated 151.5 million daily active users. 67% of those daily active users are under the age of 16. About 40% of daily users are under the age of 13.

That means there are over 60 million kids using Roblox daily.

How many moderators do you think Roblox has? About 3,000.

3,000 moderators watching over 151 million daily users and billions of messages.

See where I’m going with this?

Predators take advantage of online platforms.

Roblox was not heavily moderated. In fact, predators specifically mentioned Roblox’ poor moderation in chats with children. That means predators knew they could message kids with little consequences.

Once they established a relationship with children they then moved the conversation to other social platforms such as Discord, Snapchat and Telegram.

One financial analysis company took things a step further. Hindenburg Research published a report calling Roblox a “pedophile hellscape for kids.”

This is coming from investors who typically care about stock prices, not children’s safety.

    How Are Children Being Targeted?

There’s something particularly sinister about Roblox predators…

Signing up for Roblox is easy. All a user needs is a birthdate. No actual age verification. No parental sign up. No ID required.

    This allows predators to easily…

    • Lie about their age
    • Impersonate children
    • Contact kids with ease
    • Establish trust while playing games

Roblox also features its own virtual currency called “Robux”. Predators have used Robux to manipulate children into sex chat. Simply offering children Robux for free was enough bait.

One mother in Tennessee said her and her husband typically monitored their son’s account. But one day they decided to check his Roblox account and saw something sinister.

Her and her husband logged into their 13-year-old son’s account. Within 10 minutes, they received a message from an obviously older man asking personal questions.

They began asking him about what school he went to. Then tried to walk the child towards other messaging applications.

But this isn’t an isolated case.

Since 2018, at least 24 people have been arrested across the United States for charges related to attempting to sexually assault children on Roblox. Another 6 were arrested in 2025.

    Safety Features in Place

Roblox has since added new safety features.

At the end of 2024 and into 2025 they’ve added new parental controls, messaging restrictions for kids under 13 years old, and game ratings based on maturity. The company has also been working on technology that estimates age based on a users facial features.

Roblox could’ve added these features a lot sooner.

“We recognize parents’ concerns and are committed to doing better. While we have always had tools in place to keep kids safe, we have added new features and protections since the beginning of the year based on feedback from around the platform.”

That was Roblox CEO Cathy Tinder saying that they were going to do better… in late December of 2025.

TheSafetyFeaturesRobloxHasInThePlace. Which Is Better Than Nothing.

    • Parental controls dashboard
    • Restricted chat for children under 13
    • Limits on how long children can play per day, parental approval for extended time
    • Ability to rate games based on maturity levels

How to Keep Your Family Safe

But what can you actually do to protect your family?

Anyone who knows me knows I’m not one to just rant about a problem and leave things there. So here are some ways to actually protect your kids from online sex predators.

Digital dangers are everywhere. Social media platforms come and go. How predators attack evolves.

Here are some basic steps you can take to help keep your kids safe:

YouTube Educate yourself on every platform your child uses.

Kids these days know a lot more than we think. But they probably don’t know enough about online safety. Take every opportunity to teach your kids about the dangers of the digital world.

Restrict their online use. I’m not saying you need to shelter your kids from the digital world. But you should monitor every second they are on YouTube, Facebook, or any other platform they use.

Download the parent dashboards for every platform your child uses. Set up restrictions while you’re at it. Don’t just create these for your kids, USE them with your kids.

Turn on all the safety features. Roblox has added age estimation software, parental dashboards, and more. USE THESE FEATURES.

FaceTime your child while they’re on the computer. If your kid is older and you trust them, have them simply share their screen with you while they browse.

If you child receives new friends that you don’t know, suddenly wants privacy when using the computer, or starts receiving gifts, these can be red flags.

Talk to your kids about what’s appropriate to share online. Predators want you to think they can simply hack into your child’s social. Tell your kids that if someone they don’t know asks for personal information that they should tell you.

Children who know WHAT NOT to share online are a lot less likely to fall into predator traps.

Knowledge is power. There’s no magical algorithm that can protect your kids from online sex predators. But staying informed and involved in what your kids are doing online is a great start.

    Final Thoughts…

It’s sad to think that Roblox, a site popular with kids, has been taken over by sex predators.

    But it’s true.

And Roblox isn’t the only platform sex predators are using to target children.

As more Roblox lawsuits surface and predators are held accountable. Other platforms will inevitably face pressure to make changes.

Until then we as parents need to do everything we can to keep our kids safe online.

Remember, just because a site is popular with kids doesn’t mean it’s safe for them.
