RoboCop Series [That Does Not Have RoboCop] In Development; Will Focus on Dick Jones

A RoboCop prequel series is currently in development. The series will detail the rise of Omni Consumer Products, as well as the company’s Vice President – Dick Jones. Ed Neumeier, who was the scriptwriter for the original movie in 1987; revealed that he was working on the prequel series for MGM:

“It has all the cool stuff about RoboCop except no RoboCop.”

He continued:

“There’s the idea of doing things about business and law enforcement in the city of Detroit a minute-and-a-half in the future. It would be a way to do all sorts of stories about business and tech, Silicon Valley, corporations, snakes in suits, cops, all that. It’s a wonderfully rich tapestry.”

While there is no official green light yet, things are looking good for a pilot episode. According to IGN, Neumeier had explained that the show won’t have the company start off as the bad guy. Rather it will show more of the humanity of Dick Jones. Considering how passionate RoboCop fans are, I’m not sure how they will react to a series that doesn’t feature RoboCop.

What do you think?
