Two mannequins dressed in formal historical costumes stand on a dimly lit stage facing an empty auditorium.

The Royal Opera House in London is honouring Maria Callas and simultaneously celebrating the UK release of Pablo Larraín’s (Spencer, Jackie) latest film, Maria, with an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour. On the 18th and 19th of January, visitors will be able to get rare backstage access to the Royal Opera House, while finding out more about the most outstanding female opera singer ever lived. From making her Covent Garden debut in 1952 in the title role in Norma to her last ever opera role as Tosca in the same-named play in 1965, Callas graced the stage of the Royal Opera House multiple times throughout the years. Her legacy is still extremely tangible when walking throughout the maze of corridors backstage.

Callas didn’t only leave a lasting impression on the Royal Opera House but also the performing industry in general. She has inspired many directors, with Larraín being the latest one. His film, which is being described as an immersive, involving portrait of a spell-binding but inherently distant figure, also takes centre stage throughout this tour as you’ll be able to see multiple costumes worn by Angeline Jolie in the movie and created by celebrated costume designer Massimo Cantini Parrini.

While the slots on the 18th are already sold out, tickets are still available for the tour on the 19th. You can book your tickets here.

Here’s a sneak peek of what you can expect during the tour:
