[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”9006″ img_size=”700×400″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]Do you remember back during Captain America: Civil War’s promo tour that all of us who are fans were collectively freaking out at the possibility of Cap dying, the way he did in the Civil War comic; and that we’d need a new hero to take up the mantle. In the comics, both Bucky and Sam Wilson (Falcon) have taken up the Captain America name, so who would be the new one, we all wondered. There were even memes created from this curiosity and with Chris Evans confirming that he just filmed his final scene as Steve Rogers in the MCU forever (cue crying), we now have to wonder – will anyone take up the mantle as the new Cap? Besides, Captain Marvel, of course.
In a sit down with Frank Grillo, who formerly played Brock Rumlow aka Crossbones in the MCU; offered very vague insight on the rumors circulating around Marvel:
“I don’t know, but there have been rumors that Captain America could be African American. Could be a woman. You know, so they’re looking.”
Could this rumor be an insight that Anthony Mackie will become Captain America? Surely, Sam Wilson has earned it. Wilson has had Rogers’ back since day one in The Winter Soldier and no matter how much of Cap’s decisions have put Wilson in the direct line of fire, he never backs down. Showing absolute loyalty and standing up for what’s right despite the push-back is exactly what Captain America embodies. We have a female Cap coming into the MCU with Brie Larson as Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel, who has already been confirmed to carry Phase 4 of the MCU. Falcon and Bucky may have turned to dust, but Sebastian Stan has some more Marvel movies under his contract, so we haven’t seen the last of him.
As for Anthony Mackie, he did just land a deal with Netflix to portray Takeshi Kovacs in the second season of Altered Carbon, taking over for Joel Kinnaman. Still, it’d be great to see Mackie in the Captain America suit with Wilson picking up where Rogers left off, as Steve would have wanted him to do.
