Ryan Gosling Reportedly To Join Margot Robbie in ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ Prequel

Back in May, it was revealed that Warner Bros. Discovery was bringing Ocean’s Eleven back to the public eye with a prequel starring Margot Robbie, directed by Jay Roach, and written by Carrie Solomon. Puck has recently claimed that Ryan Gosling is expected to join Robbie and Roach on the production. It would be fun to see Robbie and Gosling go on a heist adventure, but as of now, nothing has been confirmed.

The studio’s new leadership, headed by CEO David Zaslav, “wants to prioritize movies that can make millions in theaters first, and they’ve got a few they are almost ready to greenlight.” Its no doubt the new management has made quite a few changes and cancellations that have been controversial decisions such as shelving the Batgirl movie for tax purposes. Although, despite reports that Walter Hamada was on the verge of leaving, he has committed to staying until the release of Black Adam.

There have been some odd Barbie dolls created (Margot Barbie not included)

However, even with all the cancellations, the studio seems to be interested in making movies and being profitable, so reviving the Ocean franchise seems like a good start. The first Ocean film was made in the 1960s starring Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Sammy Davis Jr. The plot follows a group of World War II veterans who embark on a heist to rob five Las Vegas banks. With George Clooney and Brad Pitt in the lead roles, the movie was redone in 2001, and the team continued to appear in subsequent heist movies in a trilogy. In addition, in 2018, the franchise saw an all-female cast in Ocean’s Eight, which starred Sandra Bullock as Debbie Ocean, Clooney’s Danny Ocean’s sister. The picture also starred Anne Hathaway, Rihanna, Sarah Paulson, Helena Bonham Carter, Cate Blanchett, and Mindy Kaling.

The franchise has always had a tremendous and powerful ensemble of performers, so Robbie and Gosling would be a fantastic addition. Robbie has gone to become an Oscar-nominated actress, having been nominated for her performances in I, Tonya, and Bombshell. Gosling too has two Academy nominations for La La Land and Half Nelson.

The pair is set to be next seen in the Barbie film premiering on July 21, 2023.
