    Video Quality

Scare Package II: Rad Chad’s Revenge arrives on Blu-Ray with a stellar AVC encoded 1080p transfer in its original aspect ratio. With the anthology format you get a variety of different cinematographers with unique stylistic choices to keep things interesting. The transfer looks uniformly gorgeous with every segment showcased with great care. Detail is readily apparent in elements such as the gnarly makeup effects and the production design. Skin tones appear very natural across the entire cast, and compression artifacts, banding and other such digital nuisances are never an issue.

With the throwback style that this film is paying homage to, you have an array of vibrant colors which the transfer renders with perfect saturation. Black levels are appropriately deep and give way to a pleasing amount of detail in shadows. The highlights during any of the brighter scenes do not fall victim to any blooming in this presentation. The Blu-Ray presentation leaves nothing to be desired.

    Audio Quality

This Blu-Ray comes with a dynamic DTS-HD 5.1 Master Audio track that brings this wild journey to life perfectly. The track delivers stylistically diverse sound experiences from segment to segment, but all come through with the intended flawless fidelity in the mix. Ambient sounds are realized effectively in the rear channels. There are sudden bursts of activity in the low end that provide a jolt to the mix, and this is handled without issue. Dialogue always comes through crisp and clear without being clipped by any competing sounds. The score provides extra character to the sound design. The audio track proves to be an excellent sounding presentation for this feature.  There are English SDH and Spanish subtitles provided.

    Special Features

    • Audio Commentary: Co-creator Aaron Koontz gives an insightful track in which he discusses the development of the sequel, how he got connected with various cast members, the relationship with the other directors, fun cameos, what they wanted to accomplish with this outing and more.
    • Spot The Reference With The Help Of Horror Icons: An option to watch the film with a pop-up trivia track that points out all the references to other films.
    • Making Of The Film, But Still Not Making Sense: A 22-minute piece in which the cast and creative team discuss the origins of the project, the fan reaction to the first film, the “preparation” the actors took to play their roles, and more that gives some good insight into the film.
    • Rad Chad’s Rad Ad, Hijacked!: A two-minute advertisement for Rad Chad’s video store that is taken over by a hooded villain.
    • Bloopers and Scenes Cut To Get Under 100 mins: A seven-minute collection of unused moments are provided here which provides a good time.
    • Most Of The Best Parts In 60 Seconds: A minute-long trailer is provided here.
    • Most Of The Best Parts In 90 Seconds: A minute-and-a-half trailer is provided here.

    Final Thoughts

Scare Package II: Rad Chad’s Revenge is a sequel that does improve a bit on the original film without completely nailing the effort. There remains some inconsistency within the shorts, which is not uncommon in anthology films. The improvements come from a general sense that the creatives are not trying to impress the audience as much with their deep knowledge of horror and better pacing. There are still many dissections of horror tropes, but there is at least the occasional bit of critique rather than simple acknowledgement. RLJE Entertainment has provided a Blu-Ray disc with a great A/V presentation and some excellent special features. If you hated the first film, this will not completely change your mind, but those who leaned more positive should have a good time with this next chapter.

Scare Package II: Rad Chad’s Revenge will be available to purchase on Blu-Ray and DVD on April 11, 2023.
