Seth Rogen and Will Ferrell join Kay Cannon for ’79ers’

A movie that has Seth Rogen or Will Ferrell’s name attached to it, guarantees my butt in a theater seat anxious to laugh. The same can now be said when one hears the name, Kay Cannon. According to Collider, It was announced this week by Lionsgate that Kay Cannon has been chosen to direct a treasure hunt comedy titled ‘79ers‘. Cannon was the writer, and producer of the ‘Pitch Perfect’ trilogy and debuting director of 2018 comedy ‘Blockers‘.  Furthermore, the production companies of Rogen and Ferrell, Point Grey and Gary Sanchez Productions have teamed up with Cannon for the film.

The film follows a group of estranged friends who are forced back together after 20 years to complete a treasure hunt they attempted as misfit teens, but never completed. The screenplay, originally written by Ben Schwartz will be worked on by Dylan Myer.

This comedy will be in good hands with Cannon who wrote and produced for television shows, ‘30 Rock‘ and ‘New Girl‘. She also created, wrote, and produced the Netflix series, ‘Girlboss‘. Add that to the previously mentioned movie success and you have a superstar. The President Of Lionsgate, Nathan Kahane says in a statement:

“Kay is wonderful at capturing characters in situational conflict and is the perfect choice for this re-engineered coming-of-age comedy. I hope when we are finished with this film it feels like Goonies for adults,”

he adds:

“I have loved this script ever since I first read it. It has such great roles for a group of actors, as our estranged friends have the wisdom and life experience of 30 year-olds, but the baggage of their teen years that they have to overcome as they reunite for a legendary treasure hunt that has eluded them for decades.”

Rogen previously worked with Cannon on ‘Blockers’ which was arguably the best comedy of last year and Ferrell worked on this year’s top comedy, ‘Booksmart’. All of which leads one to believe that this film will be nothing short of hilarious. I can’t wait to see how this one turns out. We’ll update you all when we learn more.
