With Warner Brothers/ DC films Shazam! off to a “super” start on its opening weekend, talk of a sequel has already been discussed by the studio and fans alike. In a recent discussion with Collider, Shazam! Producer Peter Safran explained why it might be necessary to start production on a sequel sooner rather than later. The reason stems with the young cast that portray Billy Batson’s Foster family.
They’re going to look like Zach does today. So we’ve got to move quickly with the sequel, for sure. The actors who play Billy and his foster brothers and sisters — Asher Angel, Grace Fulton, Jack Dylan, Ian Chen, Jovan Armand and Faithe Herman — are all under 18 years of age, but they will grow up rapidly. If a sequel is to once again feature them as the children they play, then it will have to go into production sooner rather than later.
While the studio would prefer to complete the Black Adam project which is to Star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in the titular role before a Shazam! sequel, it might find itself up against the clock and the young casts aging cycle if it wants to use the foster kids around the same age they are now for a possible sequel. Just one of the many factors that Studios must face on any project where young cast members play such an integral part of a film. Especially one as apparently successful as Shazam! Have you had a chance to see Shazam! starring Zachary Levi yet? If so, would you like to see a sequel with the returning cast? If you haven’t, don’t wait any longer. Go see Shazam! It’s some of the most fun you will have in a super hero film.
